What You’ll Do
As a Field Service Technician, you’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks at customer job sites with efficiency and professionalism. You will:
- Perform unsupervised repairs and diagnostics in accordance with dealership and factory standards
- Complete major component repairs and overhauls, including engine, driveline, electrical, and A/C systems
- Diagnose malfunctions based on inspections and customer concerns
- Communicate with service and parts departments to coordinate workflow and secure needed parts
- Save, tag, and track warranty parts; open OEM and vendor diagnostic cases as required
- Document all repairs and recommendations on work orders with accuracy
- Road test vehicles and perform inspections for safety or additional service needs
- Install optional equipment, report defects, and keep customers informed of repair status
- Maintain greater than 80% productivity and 95% efficiency
- Keep service truck clean, neat, and safe; wash weekly
- Assist fellow technicians and participate in ongoing manufacturer training programs
- Adhere to federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and hazardous waste handling
- Maintain dealership-owned tools and work area cleanliness
- Promote health and safety policies in all work environments
What We’re Looking For
- Vocational/technical school graduate with 5 years related experience, or equivalent training
- Strong background in engine and driveline troubleshooting, electrical systems, and A/C repair
- Ability to overhaul major components and perform advanced diagnostics
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Good supply of personal hand tools required
Required Certifications & Licenses:
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
- Drive Train Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck
- HVAC Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck
- State Vehicle Inspector Certification (Class 7)
- MX Engine Certification
- Cummins MD and HD Certification
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or higher (must meet company insurability standards)
- Valid Driver’s License (must meet company insurability standards)
Physical Requirements
- Regular standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
- Frequent lifting of 50 lbs; ability to lift/move more than 100 lbs occasionally
- Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Work Environment
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and outside weather
- Occasional work at heights or in loud environments
- Team-based shop and field setting
