Position Summary
The School-Based Counselor provides mental health treatment, diagnostic assessments, and ongoing therapeutic support to students within assigned school districts. This role supports students year-round and does not follow the school calendar, meaning service delivery continues during school breaks, holidays, and summer sessions as clinically appropriate. The ideal candidate is trauma-informed, client-centered, and committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active LSW, LPC, or higher-level licensure (e.g., LISW, LPCC) in the State of Ohio.
- Experience providing mental health therapy to children and adolescents.
- Experience and competency in diagnosing clients using DSM-5 criteria.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, crisis interventions, and ethical practice.
- Ability to work independently, manage a flexible schedule, and maintain productivity expectations.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Services
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments and determine appropriate diagnoses.
- Provide individual counseling, family sessions, and skill-building interventions to assigned students.
- Develop and implement person-centered treatment plans that reflect clinical goals and progress.
- Utilize evidence-based, trauma-informed therapeutic approaches.
- Maintain a consistent caseload and provide ongoing services during school breaks and non-academic periods.
- Respond to crises and coordinate safety planning as necessary.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all documentation within required timeframes, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
- Ensure all services meet OHMAS, Joint Commission, Medicaid, and agency compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate records and timely entries into the EMR.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with school personnel, parents/guardians, district supervisors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in team meetings, consultations, and case coordination as needed.
- Communicate professionally and maintain strict confidentiality following HIPAA and agency policy.
Professionalism & Development
- Maintain clinical licensure and fulfill ongoing CEU requirements.
- Participate in required trainings, supervision, and professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrate cultural competence, empathy, and a client-centered mindset.
Pay: $ $32.00 per hour
