Job Description
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all sanitation-related activities involving dishwashing, pot washing, and general kitchen cleanliness. This role ensures that all porter staff comply with sanitation standards, work efficiently, and follow safety protocols. This supervisory role requires hands-on work, strong communication, and a focus on safety and efficiency, meeting all company sanitation SOPs and guidelines.
Essential Functions:
•Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the work of porters, dishwashers, and pot washers during assigned shifts
•Ensure all pots, pans, trays, utensils, kitchen equipment, and airline equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and stored correctly
•Maintain the cleanliness of all dishwashing areas, drains, mop stations, sinks, and surrounding kitchen zones
•Enforce compliance with company sanitation protocols and health and safety regulations.
•Train new porter staff on cleaning procedures, chemical safety, PPE usage, and equipment handling
•Conduct regular inspections of work areas, equipment, and cleaning stations to ensure safety and cleanliness
•Support deep cleaning projects and sanitation tasks in coordination with QA and Production
•Ensure all cleaning supplies, PPE, and chemicals are properly stocked, labeled, and used according to SDS guidelines
•Assist in creating and updating cleaning schedules and sanitation standards.
•Report maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions to the Sanitation Manager or Maintenance Department
•Address performance or attendance issues among porter staff in coordination with HR or management
Skills and Qualifications
•Must be at least 18 years of age.
•High School Diploma or GED preferred.
•2 years preferred, having prior experience as a porter, pot washer, or sanitation experience in a food production or commercial kitchen environment
•At least 1 year of supervisory or team leader experience preferred.
•Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
•Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
•Ability to communicate with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
•Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language with proficiency.
•Reliable attendance and punctuality.
•Able to work in refrigerated environments (cold rooms).
•Excellent time management and communication skills.
•Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position is in a food manufacturing facility and involves working in areas that may be cold, hot, humid, or noisy. The environment includes exposure to strong food odors, allergens, and potentially working with equipment. Employees may need to follow strict sanitation and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Work may take place on wet or slippery surfaces. Schedules may include overtime, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs.
Physical Demands
•Standing/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, often on concrete or other hard surfaces.
•Lifting/Carrying: May lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 25 lbs. (occasionally more with assistance or equipment).
•Repetitive Motions: Use of hands and arms for repetitive tasks such as packing, sorting, or operating machinery.
•Sensory Requirements: Must be able to evaluate food products, detect odors, and visually inspect food for quality and safety.
•Reaching/Bending: Frequent reaching overhead, bending, stooping, and crouching throughout the shift.
•Manual Dexterity: Use of fine motor skills for tasks requiring precision and coordination, such as operating controls or using smaller tools.
•Visual Requirements: Ability to visually inspect products, labels, or equipment for quality and safety standards.
•Auditory Requirements: Ability to hear alarms, machine sounds, and verbal communication in a noisy environment.
•Protective Equipment: Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include but not be limited to hairnets, gloves, masks, and/or safety shoes, as required by food safety standards and warehouse protocol.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Standard hours and days of work may vary based on production schedules and operational needs, including flight schedules. Evening, weekends, and holiday work may be required, as well as occasional overtime.
