Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This hands-on role requires a CPA with strong technical accounting expertise, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage staff while maintaining attention to detail. The Controller safeguards company assets, manages internal controls, and supports the SVP of Finance in executing financial strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development.
- Maintain accurate reconciliations, journal entries, and consolidations.
Financial Oversight & Controls
- Establish and maintain internal controls to protect company assets.
- Prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Support audits and coordinate with external auditors.
- Monitor cash flow, forecasts, and working capital.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Safeguard confidentiality of financial and operational information.
- Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and support risk management activities.
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with the SVP of Finance and leadership on budgets and forecasts.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Support subsidiaries and outsourced accounting functions as needed.
Requirements
- CPA certification required.
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting/ERP systems (Sage preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
