Completions Applications Engineer
Position Summary
The Completions Applications Engineer serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert in the design, modeling, and optimization of well completions, with a strong emphasis on conventional and unconventional wells, horizontal wells, permanent Downhole Gauge systems, Artificial Lift (ESP, Gas Lift, Plunger Lift and PCP). This role bridges subsurface engineering, reservoir characterization, and completion design to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that maximize production and well economics across global assets.
This individual plays a critical role in supporting operations, business development, and technology advancement through advanced modeling, cross-functional collaboration, and direct customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Completions Review, Design & Engineering
- Design and optimize completions for horizontal wells, including:
- Downhole gauge systems
- Cable protector placement
- Cased hole completions
- Packers for Artificial Systems
- Perform completion hydraulics modeling to predict flow behavior, pressure losses, and production performance
- Conduct nodal analysis and integrate artificial lift strategies (e.g., gas lift, ESP, PCP) into completion designs
- Select appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for specific reservoir and well conditions
- Reservoir & Subsurface Integration
- Integrate static and dynamic reservoir data into engineering workflows
- Perform steady-state and analytical reservoir simulations to support completion strategies
- Conduct well performance analysis, including:
- Inflow performance relationships (IPR)
- Reservoir quality and heterogeneity assessment
- Apply petrophysical interpretation and well log analysis to inform completion design
- Modeling & Technical Analysis
- Utilize industry-standard software such as:
- NETool, WellFlo, PVTflex, OFM, Interactive Petrophysics (Not all inclusive list)
- Model and optimize inflow control performance across varying reservoir conditions
- Evaluate sand production risk, erosion, and geomechanical constraints
- Perform root cause analysis on underperforming wells and recommend corrective actions
- Customer Engagement & Business Development
- Act as a technical advisor to customers, supporting project planning and execution
- Prepare and deliver:
- Technical proposals
- Engineering reports
- Technology presentations
- Support sales and business development teams by translating technical solutions into customer value
- Interface directly with operators, addressing complex technical challenges and providing fit-for-purpose solutions
Technology Development & Innovation
- Contribute to R&D initiatives to expand application envelopes of Artificial Lift completion technologies
- Support development and field deployment of new systems and support of existing systems
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive solutions
- Participate in technical publications, industry conferences, and knowledge sharing
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Work within multidisciplinary teams, Internal and External, including reservoir, production, and completion engineers
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical training to sales and operations teams
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Support strategic decision-making through technical expertise and data-driven insights
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering (Master’s preferred)
10 years of experience in:
- Completions engineering
- Reservoir engineering or petrophysics
- Proven experience in horizontal well completions related to Artificial Lift Systems
- Strong background in subsurface engineering analysis
- Experience with reservoir simulation and completion modeling tools
- Demonstrated ability to work across varying assets and diverse reservoir environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline
- Experience working with major operators (e.g., international oil companies, NOCs, Lower 48 Operators - USA)
- Published technical papers or participation in industry conferences
- Experience in both exploration/petrophysics and completions engineering
- Exposure to global basins (Middle East, Americas, offshore environments)
