Summary

The Maintenance II position performs a range of routine unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance and repair work of structures and related facilities, in support of the operations on and around the assigned area of responsibility. This position is eligible for overtime pay.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Performs routine repair and preventative maintenance work on buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment to ensure proper working order and appearance
  • Prepares and forwards material and parts requisitions
  • Maintains accurate maintenance operation records related to materials and work. Ensures accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks
  • Operates and performs operator’s maintenance on a variety of equipment and various hand tools to perform repair and maintenance work
  • Assists in planning on-going projects, special projects and possible future requirements based on the age and usage of buildings, equipment and facilities
  • Participates in the youth vocational exploration work program and directly supervises youth through hands on experience with the maintenance function
  • Handles other facility specific duties as assigned

Education And Experience Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; 1 to 3 years maintenance experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position, and a valid Florida drivers license in good standing.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of basic methods, practices and equipment used in maintenance work
  • Must have basic knowledge of the operation of tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair work and methods and techniques for storing equipment, supplies and materials
  • Must have knowledge of basic preventative maintenance activities and methods and techniques of storing equipment, materials and supplies
  • Must be skilled in the performance of one or more trades
  • Must have the ability to perform a variety of building, grounds, and equipment maintenance duties
  • Must have the ability to read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability to operate tools and equipment used in general maintenance
  • Must have the ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, perform routine clerical work, maintain and monitory inventory levels and perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately
  • Must have the ability to provide information and assistance to parents, youth, general public and other staff members in a helpful, courteous and timely manner and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, work independently with limited supervision and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Must have the ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and timeliness in an environment with changing priorities
  • Must have the ability to analyze situations accurately and adapt an effective course of action
  • Must have the ability to safely use tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair work
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, lift, climb, sit, stoop, kneel, balance or crouch. The employee may be required to work in or inspect confined spaces for prolonged periods of time, work on slippery or uneven surfaces, operate motorized equipment or vehicles and operate office equipment such as phones, copy machines, faxes, etc.

The employee will be required to use hands and fingers and reach within arms length and will occasionally taste and smell. The employee is required to lift up to 10 pounds extensively, 25-50 pounds regularly and over 100 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee will be required to travel occasionally for training purposes or as assigned to other agency locations to provide assistance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work may be performed in an indoor or outdoor environment, subject to traveling from site to site with exposure to moving mechanical parts, temperature changes, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, unpleasant odors, inclement weather and/or loud noises. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions and may include the use of personal protective equipment.

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $17.00 per hour
