Our client, a leading environmental services and waste management company, is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee daily transportation and collection operations. This role is responsible for leading drivers and support staff, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining productivity standards, and delivering high-quality customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staffing
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and coach drivers and operational staff.
- Provide ongoing performance management, employee development, and disciplinary action when necessary.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and coordinate schedules for drivers, helpers, and route personnel.
- Foster a positive, safety-focused, and team-oriented work environment.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily collection and transportation operations to ensure routes are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Monitor customer service levels and resolve service issues, missed stops, container delivery concerns, and escalated complaints.
- Coordinate personnel and equipment usage to maximize operational efficiency and productivity.
- Review and maintain operational paperwork, including driver logs, vehicle inspections, route sheets, and truck reports.
- Track daily productivity metrics and input operational data into company systems.
- Maintain inventory of operational and safety supplies, including PPE, hydration products, and related equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce company safety policies and DOT/CDL regulatory compliance.
- Conduct routine route observations and safety audits.
- Investigate accidents/incidents and complete all required documentation.
- Schedule and lead regular safety meetings and training sessions.
- Ensure employees are properly equipped with and utilizing the required safety equipment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience in waste management, transportation, logistics, fleet operations, or related industries required.
- Previous experience driving commercial vehicles and familiarity with CDL regulations strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or team leadership experience required.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Experience
- Fleet operations or route management experience.
- Experience leading safety initiatives and compliance programs.
- Knowledge of transportation scheduling and dispatch operations.
- Familiarity with operational reporting systems and productivity tracking.
