What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at Fixture Concepts Inc.?
Fixture Concepts is a high-end commercial millwork and casework shop specializing in custom architectural woodworking projects across retail, commercial, residential, and specialty environments. We’re looking for a hands-on Production Manager to lead our shop operations, support and develop our people, and help build the structure and standards needed to take our operation to the next level – this is not a “sit behind a desk” manufacturing role.
We’re looking for someone who can lead from the floor, communicate with confidence, solve problems in real time, and keep production moving in a fast-paced custom fabrication environment. The right person will bring both operational leadership and a strong people-first mindset to a team of experienced craftsmen and shop employees.
If you thrive in environments where every day looks a little different, enjoy building processes and accountability, and take pride in creating a strong shop culture, this is a unique opportunity to make a real impact.
What You’ll Do:
Lead Shop Operations
- Oversee day-to-day operations across two commercial woodworking manufacturing facilities (St. Peters, MO and Troy, MO)
- Manage production flow, scheduling, finishing, shipping, and shop coordination
- Help prioritize work and remove roadblocks to keep projects moving efficiently
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineering, Purchasing, and Sales throughout project execution
- Monitor labor, materials, schedules, and production performance
Lead and Develop People
- Directly supervise and support 35 shop employees
- Create accountability, structure, and clear expectations within the shop
- Coach, motivate, and develop employees while maintaining a strong team culture
- Handle employee performance conversations, hiring, discipline, and staffing support alongside leadership
- Be a visible, approachable leader who earns trust and respect on the floor
Build Standards and Improve Processes
- Help create and implement new and existing shop standards, workflows, and operational consistency
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency, organization, and communication
- Improve coordination between departments and production stages
- Support inventory organization, production tracking, and overall shop accountability
Safety, Quality & Maintenance
- Maintain and reinforce a safe working environment
- Oversee safety practices, shop cleanliness, and maintenance coordination
- Support quality control efforts and ensure projects meet AWI standards
- Assist with machine, equipment, and facility maintenance planning
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in commercial millwork, cabinetry, woodworking, or architectural casework manufacturing
- Strong leadership presence with experience managing shop or production teams
- Working knowledge of woodworking machinery, fabrication processes, finishing, and materials
- Experience with production scheduling, workflow coordination, and operational management
- Ability to balance people leadership with production urgency
- Comfortable making decisions and adapting in a fast-moving environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of AWI Quality Standards preferred
- Experience building processes, accountability, and operational structure is a major plus
What Makes This Role Different:
- High visibility leadership role with direct impact on the future of the operation
- Opportunity to help shape systems, standards, and shop culture
- Tight-knit company environment where decisions happen quickly
- Variety of responsibilities and the ability to wear multiple hats
- Flexible environment with a strong level of ownership and autonomy
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced craftsmen on unique custom projects
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to walk the shop floor and move between multiple manufacturing areas throughout the day
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally climb stairs or ladders as needed in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to occasionally lift or move materials, tools, or equipment up to 50 pounds
This role requires responsiveness, adaptability, and ownership. Production doesn’t always stop at 5 PM, and successful leaders in this role understand how to balance urgency, communication, and flexibility in a custom shop environment.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salaried position based on experience
- Health, dental, and vision benefits
- Company provided cell phone or allowance
- Paid time off and holidays
- SIMPLE IRA Retirement Plan and Contribution Match
- Long-term opportunity for growth and leadership impact
Fixture Concepts is an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at all levels of the organization.
