Title: Director of Operations
Employment Type: Temporary 6-month position, Part-Time 5 - 10 hours per week.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Operations serves as the lead administrative support of the church. The position will support the pastor, ministry teams, and board in fulfilling the church's mission. This role provides strategic and day-to-day oversight across three core areas — personnel, finance, and communications — ensuring that ministry is supported by excellent, mission-aligned operations.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
PERSONNEL
Staffing, HR processes, onboarding, and needs assessments.
FINANCE
Oversees day-to-day financial operations and supervises the bookkeeper; serves as the liaison to financial vendors, the Treasurer, and the Finance Committee as needed.
COMMUNICATIONS
Supervises the Communications staff and supports development of content for weekly bulletin, website updates, social media, and other communications as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Personnel & HR
- Support the Lead Pastor in staff development and accountability.
- Coordinate hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes in partnership with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)
- Maintain personnel files, policies, and compliance with applicable employment law and UMC guidelines.
Finance & Stewardship
- Provide direct supervision and performance management for the bookkeeper, ensuring all financial records are maintained with accuracy and integrity.
- Supervision of day-to-day financial operations in collaboration with the bookkeeper and liaison with financial services vendors.
- Provides communication to the Treasurer and Leadership Board as needed.
- Support the Finance Committee in developing and monitoring expenses and the annual church budget.
Communications
- Strategic Oversight: Supervise the Director of Communications, providing regular feedback, direction, and support to ensure departmental goals are met.
- Content Collaboration: Partner with the communications team to develop and schedule engaging content for the website, social media, weekly newsletters, and worship bulletins.
- Quality Control: Proofread and edit all church communications for accuracy, clarity, and tone, ensuring alignment with church values and brand standards.
- Project Management: Maintain a master communications calendar to coordinate deadlines across all digital and print platforms.
- Digital Accuracy: Work in tandem with the coordinator to ensure the website is updated regularly with accurate information for the congregation and community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of leadership or project planning/management experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Preferred
- Background in human resources or finance.
- Experience managing communications platforms (Mailchimp, Canva, social media)

WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time, non-exempt position that may expand as the needs of the church grow. Some evenings may be needed for committee meetings. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and set by the Finance Committee in partnership with the SPRC.
