Senior Mechanical Engineer (Cleanrooms & HVAC)
Location: Houston, TX or Chandler, AZ
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office / 2 days from home)
Pay Rate: $59-$77/hr
Job Summary
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and evaluation of complex mechanical systems for industrial projects, with a strong focus on HVAC and cleanroom environments. You will conduct field investigations, collaborate with clients to define project scope, develop cost estimates, and provide technical leadership throughout the engineering lifecycle. This role requires sound engineering judgment to resolve complex technical challenges while ensuring project objectives, quality standards, and client requirements are achieved. This position follows our global telework policy and is designated for part-time telework. Team members are expected to work on-site at least three days per week at their assigned office or project location. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined in collaboration with your supervisor and project leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of mechanical engineering activities for assigned projects.
- Develop engineering designs and solutions for HVAC, cleanroom, and mechanical systems while addressing complex design challenges, conflicting requirements, and constructability considerations.
- Perform engineering analyses and calculations using company Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and other approved engineering tools.
- Prepare equipment specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and procurement recommendations.
- Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with multidisciplinary teams, clients, suppliers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership to engineers and project teams, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality engineering work.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues, communicating recommendations to project management and engineering leadership.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, engineering standards, and administrative processes.
- Mentor engineers, designers, and drafters by providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development.
- Foster a collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, open communication, and continuous improvement.
- Provide field engineering support by troubleshooting installation and operational issues and recommending practical, effective solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent accredited engineering program (or international equivalent).
- 10–13 years of relevant engineering experience with a bachelor's degree, or 14–17 years of related professional experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience designing dry mechanical systems, including HVAC and cleanroom applications.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive experience with HVAC equipment packages, including:
- Air Handling Units (AHUs)
- Air-Cooled Condensing Units
- Variable Air Volume (VAV) Systems
- Cleanroom Recirculation Air Systems
- Cleanroom Exhaust Systems
- Strong knowledge of cleanroom design standards and controlled environments, including:
- ISO 14644 (Parts 1-14)
- IEST Recommended Practices (RP-CC001, 002, 006, 007, 012, 021, and 034)
- Working knowledge of applicable HVAC and mechanical codes and standards, including:
- ASHRAE
- SMACNA and International Mechanical Code (IMC)
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles, equipment selection, system design, engineering calculations, plant layouts, materials, and engineering software.
- Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering practices, construction methods, and project execution.
- Ability to apply engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems in both office and field environments.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems on active job sites and providing clear technical direction for issue resolution.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing project demands, and meet challenging deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
