Job Summary
We are seeking a Process Improvement Specialist to support the continuous improvement of our Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) programs across project operations. This role is responsible for driving initiatives that strengthen incident learning, investigation quality, root cause analysis, corrective action management, and data-driven decision making.
Working closely with project teams, you will help improve ES&H performance by analyzing trends, supporting learning and development initiatives, coordinating investigations, and implementing process improvements that promote a strong safety culture. You will collaborate with engineering, construction, procurement, project controls, subcontract management, and other functional teams to ensure ES&H requirements are effectively integrated into daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the project's ES&H Management System and compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Lead or facilitate incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and effective corrective action planning.
- Conduct root cause analyses using methodologies such as 5 Whys, Why Tree, Barrier Analysis, and other structured problem-solving techniques.
- Develop and maintain programs that promote employee safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous operational improvement.
- Manage ES&H databases, including incident records, audit findings, inspections, and corrective action tracking.
- Analyze safety and environmental performance data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, executive summaries, and presentations to communicate ES&H performance and recommendations.
- Support the development, implementation, and optimization of ES&H software systems and digital tools.
- Facilitate risk assessments, hazard evaluations, and mitigation planning for project activities.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that reduce operational risk and enhance project performance.
- Deliver or support employee training related to incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and emergency preparedness.
- Coordinate ES&H recognition and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Research regulatory requirements and provide technical guidance on ES&H compliance and best practices.
- Serve as a resource for field and office personnel on ES&H processes, systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Education, or another related scientific discipline.
- 8–10 years of relevant professional experience, or 12–14 years of equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience supporting large industrial, construction, energy, mining, or infrastructure projects.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and ES&H management systems.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and leading root cause analyses.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, environmental regulations, and applicable industry standards.
- Experience applying continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, or similar process improvement frameworks.
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop practical solutions that improve safety performance.
- Experience developing executive-level reports, presentations, and performance metrics.
- Knowledge of ES&H learning management systems, reporting software, and digital process improvement tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Experience delivering instructor-led training or facilitating workshops is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Advanced Incident Investigation methodologies is preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
