Job Summary

The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and direction for electrical construction activities within an assigned project area. This position oversees craft professionals, subordinate supervisors, and other assigned personnel to ensure construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.

The Electrical Superintendent works closely with project management, Project Controls, Environmental Safety and Health, Industrial Relations, Procurement, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to coordinate resources and successfully execute electrical work.

This position requires flexibility to work varying schedules based on project needs, including day shift, night shift, and split-shift assignments.

Major Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to electrical personnel assigned to the area, including Company and subcontractor employees.
• Establish and implement electrical safety procedures and lead Company and subcontractor safety meetings.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions or work practices and ensure timely corrective action.
• Coordinate safety training and reinforce safe work practices in partnership with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
• Champion the ZERO Accident Philosophy and ensure compliance with Company policies and applicable local, state, and national safety codes, regulations, and standards.
• Monitor craft activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved specifications, quality requirements, and project schedules.
• Manage craft labor costs, productivity, workforce optimization, and resource requirements within the assigned area.
• Develop and maintain 90-day and three-week look-ahead schedules for labor, equipment, and construction activities.
• Coordinate with Industrial Relations regarding craft recruitment, onboarding, and training programs.
• Review craft time records using established automated systems and tools.
• Review and approve subcontractor equipment and personnel mobilization and demobilization plans.
• Implement corporate and project policies, procedures, standards, and instructions within assigned electrical operations.
• Coordinate with General Foremen to determine craft labor requirements and support timely hiring and workforce deployment.
• Coordinate and execute established area operational plans.
• Provide accurate quantity information to project quantity-tracking systems and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
• Prepare material requisitions for tools, equipment, and consumables and coordinate with Procurement to ensure timely availability.
• Assist with construction testing and commissioning activities as required.
• Prepare construction reports, forecasts, and status updates, including progress summaries, craft workforce forecasts, and expenditure forecasts.
• Develop and manage manpower and equipment plans required to safely and efficiently execute the work.
• Conduct employee performance reviews and identify training, development, and advancement opportunities for subordinate electrical personnel.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by project management.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of equivalent industry experience in lieu of a degree.

Basic Qualifications

• Significant heavy industrial direct-hire union construction experience appropriate to the type and complexity of work being performed.
• Thorough knowledge of supervisory responsibilities and field management practices associated with electrical construction activities.
• Extensive hands-on experience installing electrical equipment and materials, including final terminations, testing, commissioning, and operation of electrical systems.
• Experience in oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, minerals processing, power generation, or other heavy industrial construction environments is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with craft personnel, supervision, management, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and related project management tools.
• Working knowledge of applicable electrical industry codes, standards, specifications, and construction requirements.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain three-week look-ahead schedules, including coordination of crane operations and other critical equipment requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, motivate, and manage multidisciplinary construction teams.
• Ability to prioritize competing demands and make timely decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.

Physical and Site Requirements

This position involves field supervision within an active construction environment. Employees must have the physical ability to perform or participate in activities that may include:

• Extensive walking throughout and around an active construction site.
• Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and elevated access systems.
• Working from elevated platforms and other elevated work areas.
• Walking and working on uneven or irregular surfaces.
• Working in small, confined, or restricted-access spaces.
• Performing occasional lifting and handling of materials or equipment.
• Safely entering and exiting the project site and designated work areas.
• Wearing and properly using all required personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to the assigned task, which may include fall protection harnesses, life vests, lift buckets, and other standard safety equipment.
