Essential Duties

Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic medical conditions within the correctional setting.

Conducts physical exams, reviews medical histories, and evaluates symptoms.

Performs simple procedures such as laceration repair and incision & drainage (I&D).

Develops individualized treatment plans considering the constraints of the correctional environment.

Prescribes and monitors medications, ensuring compliance and managing potential side effects.

Provides immediate medical care in emergencies and initiates lifesaving interventions.

Oversees treatment for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and HIV/AIDS.

Works with mental health professionals to manage psychiatric conditions among inmates.
-
Promotes health education and preventive measures to reduce the spread of communicable diseases.

Coordinates with other physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, physical therapists, and dentists to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with facility policies and legal requirements.

Follows all correctional facility security protocols to ensure a safe work environment.

Maintains high ethical standards and professionalism when interacting with inmates, colleagues, and facility staff.

Stays current with advancements in correctional medicine through training, professional development, and meetings.

May oversee Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and other medical staff within the facility.

Performs other duties as assigned to support FCH’s goals, objectives and values.
