Dentist - Jefferson County Jail

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs dental care and treatment,conducts dental exams, reviews medical histories, and evaluates symptoms to patients.. 

• Performs routine cleanings, restorations, and extractions as needed.

• Collaborates with staff to ensure seamless operations and optimal patient care.

• Evaluates patients requiring dental care beyond basic services and provides appropriate recommendations.

• Documents all dental services provided to ensure compliance with FCH’s healthcare standards and policies.

• Educates patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and utilizes standard precautions when delivering dental care.

• Supervises staff, coordinates daily operations and addresses patient and staffing needs.

• Ensures sterilization and disinfection of equipment.

• May provides in-service training to healthcare staff on dental hygiene, dental care, dental emergencies, and treatment techniques.

• Performs other duties as assigned to support FCH’s goals, objectives and values.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

• Knowledge of treatment approaches, evidence-based practices and assessment standards.

• Knowledge and expertise in dental health, and the diagnosis and treatment of individuals.

• Ability to stay current with advancements in dentistry through ongoing education and training.

• Strong attention to detail, follow-up and timely completion of assigned tasks.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Demonstrates outstanding judgment, sensitivity and high discretion. 

• Ability to balance competing demands and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with leadership, staff, patients, the public and external partners.

• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations effectively and calmly.

• Understanding of the challenges and constraints of providing care in a correctional setting.

• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic abilities.

• Possess strong judgment, discretion, high level of confidentiality, flexibility and integrity.
