Roofing Estimator

Job Summary

The Chief Estimator is the senior estimating leader responsible for delivering expert-level roofing estimates, cost analysis, and bid strategy across all roofing projects. This role ensures accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability while setting the standard for estimating excellence. The Chief Estimator maintains strong vendor relationships, tracks market pricing trends, and provides leadership in both estimating execution and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the complete estimating lifecycle for all roofing projects, including commercial, residential, and specialty applications.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, review architectural drawings, and verify project scope for accuracy.
• Create comprehensive cost breakdowns covering labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, overhead, and contingencies.
• Identify scope gaps, project risks, and opportunities for value engineering or cost-saving alternatives.
• Develop and refine company pricing templates, production rates, and historical cost databases.
• Stay current with industry pricing trends, availability issues, supply-chain constraints, and roofing technology advancements.
• Lead vendor and supplier communications, securing competitive pricing, warranty information, and material forecasts.
• Work collaboratively with operations and project management teams to ensure assumptions align with field capabilities.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, walkthroughs, and client presentations to clarify scope and strengthen bid strategy.
• Prepare final bid proposals, budgets, alternates, and clarifications with accurate supporting documentation.
• Evaluate bid results and job-cost feedback to continuously improve estimating accuracy and strategy.
• Guide, mentor, and support junior estimators, promoting skill development and standardization of best practices.
• Recommend and implement improvements to estimating processes, software adoption, and workflow efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in commercial and residential roofing estimating.
• Extensive knowledge of roofing systems, installation methods, and material options.
• Must be proficient in estimating software.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and cost-modeling abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
