Senior Financial Planning Analyst

We are looking for Senior to Expert-level analysts who can operate at a portfolio decision-support level, not just reporting or dashboard development. This role requires candidates who understand how capital investment portfolios are structured, evaluated, and optimized under financial constraints.

Location: Oakland, CA

Duration: 5 months

ONLY SUBMIT CANDIDATES LOCAL AND CURRENTLY RESIDING IN THE BAY AREA/NEAR WORK LOCATION-OAKLAND GO. ASSIGNMENT IS HYBRID AND REQUIRED ON-SITE AT OAKLAND GO 2 DAYS PER WEEK.

TOP THINGS LOOKING FOR:

Technical Skill sets

• Experience with capital planning and enterprise systems (SAP preferred; exposure to Copperleaf, Foundry, or similar tools a plus)
• Strong Excel and Power BI skills for modeling, analysis, and portfolio-level reporting
• Experience with multi-year investment planning, scenario analysis, or portfolio optimization
• Ability to work with large, complex datasets and connect outputs to financial and planning decisions

Soft Skills

• Strong structured problem-solving, with ability to evaluate tradeoffs and develop decision options
• Ability to connect data → financial constraints → portfolio decisions → executive outcomes
• Effective communication and storytelling skills for leadership-facing deliverables
• Strong cross-functional collaboration (preferably across Finance, Engineering, and Planning teams)
• Attention to detail DataQA/QC

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 4 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, capital planning, portfolio analysis, investment decision support, or related experience

Desired Qualifications

• Experience analyzing large, complex datasets and developing insights using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar
• Strong understanding of:Financial structures (cost, risk, benefits)
• Portfolio tradeoffs and investment prioritization
• Capital programs and lifecycle cost analysis
• Experience in utility, energy, or regulated infrastructure environments
• Familiarity with portfolio optimization and scenario modeling tools (e.g., Copperleaf)
• Experience supporting investment planning or capital portfolio management processes
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Power BI
• Exposure to enterprise systems such as SAP, Foundry, or similar platforms
• Proven ability to translate complex analytical outputs into clear, decision-ready insights
• Demonstrated proficiency with financial/metrics reporting
