General Manager

The General Manager holds overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation, financial performance, and cultural health of the Huntsville, Alabama location. This is a hands-on leadership role accountable for the location’s profit and loss, the development and performance of the leadership team, the quality and efficiency of residential and commercial service and installation, and the consistent execution of company standards, policies, and core values.

The General Manager serves as the location Integrator within the company’s EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) framework, working directly with the Owner, who serves as Visionary. The role carries full accountability for achieving the location’s annual budget, strategic plan, and scorecard metrics.

This is a working leadership position. The successful candidate takes the view that no task is beneath the role and is willing to step into the warehouse, the field, or the front counter whenever the work requires it.

Financial Management and P&L Accountability

• Holds full profit and loss responsibility for the Huntsville location, including revenue, gross margin, and net income performance against budget.
• Reads, interprets, and acts on monthly financial statements, job costing reports, and departmental performance data.
• Controls labor, material, subcontractor, vehicle, and administrative costs to maximize location profitability.
• Partners with the Owner and the Columbia accounting team to build the annual location budget and monitors performance against it throughout the year.
• Monitors accounts receivable aging and days sales outstanding for the location; personally engages on escalated, disputed, and relationship-sensitive collection accounts. Invoicing, posting, and routine AP/AR processing are performed by the Columbia corporate office.
• Reviews and approves location expenditures within established authority limits and ensures all purchasing complies with company procurement procedures.
• Manages inventory accuracy, warehouse organization, shrinkage control, and cycle count discipline at the location.

Operational Leadership

• Directs all day-to-day operations of the location, including residential service and installation, commercial service and installation, warehouse, dispatch, and administrative functions.
• Ensures work is scheduled, dispatched, executed, and invoiced efficiently, with attention to technician productivity, first-time completion rates, and callback reduction.
• Establishes and maintains operational standards for job quality, jobsite conduct, vehicle and equipment care, and warehouse condition.
• Steps in personally wherever needed to accomplish the work, including assisting with loading and unloading trucks, warehouse support, jobsite support, and counter coverage during periods of short staffing or peak demand.
• Manages fleet utilization, vehicle maintenance compliance, and appearance standards for all location vehicles.
• Coordinates with the Columbia corporate office on material procurement, vendor relationships, and supply chain issues affecting the location.

Team Leadership and People Management

• Directly supervises the Residential Manager, the Commercial Manager, and three administrative positions; provides indirect leadership to all location technicians through their respective department managers.
• Recruits, interviews, hires, and — when necessary — terminates administrative staff and technicians, with Owner approval, in accordance with company policy and applicable employment law.
• Conducts timely, documented performance reviews for all direct reports and ensures department managers do the same for their teams.
• Develops department managers into stronger leaders through regular coaching, clear expectations, and accountability.
• Builds and sustains a bench of capable people at the location, addressing turnover drivers and succession gaps proactively.
• Keeps the Columbia corporate office informed of all human resource matters, employee relations issues, safety concerns, and compliance matters in a timely manner.
• Enforces all company policies, procedures, and employee handbook provisions consistently and without favoritism.

EOS Leadership and Strategic Execution

• Serves as the location Integrator within the company’s EOS framework, working in partnership with the Owner as Visionary.
• Leads the weekly Level 10 (L10) leadership team meeting for the Huntsville location, maintaining meeting discipline, issue resolution, and to-do accountability.
• Owns the location scorecard; ensures weekly measurables are reported accurately and on time, and drives corrective action when metrics fall off track.
• Sets, communicates, and delivers quarterly Rocks for the location and ensures each leadership team member does the same.
• Contributes to the development of the annual strategic plan for the location and is accountable for its execution.
• Maintains a clear accountability chart for the location and ensures the right people are in the right seats.

Systems, Technology, and ERP Integration

• Serves as the location owner of the Acumatica ERP conversion, leading the migration of the Huntsville operation from its legacy systems onto the company platform.
• Coordinates with the Columbia corporate office and implementation resources on data migration, workflow configuration, testing, and go-live sequencing.
• Ensures all location personnel are trained on and consistently using the ERP system, and that data entry discipline supports accurate reporting.
• Identifies process gaps surfaced during conversion and drives resolution rather than tolerating workarounds.
• Maintains proficiency with company software platforms and champions technology adoption across the location.

Sales Coordination and Customer Relationships

• Coordinates closely with the Sales Manager based in the Columbia office; outside sales personnel report to the Sales Manager, while the General Manager is accountable for the operational execution and margin integrity of sold work at the location.
• Ensures clean handoff from sale to production, including scope clarity, job setup, scheduling, and change order discipline.
• Prepares quotes within published price matrices and approved margin parameters; escalates pricing outside those parameters to the Columbia office.
• Meets with customers as needed to build and maintain key account relationships in the Huntsville market.
• Personally engages in the resolution of escalated customer complaints, with a bias toward rapid, fair, and permanent resolution.
• Represents the company professionally within the local market, including with general contractors, property managers, builders, and trade partners.

Safety and Compliance

• Actively promotes and enforces the company safety program, including toolbox talks, jobsite safety practices, personal protective equipment use, and vehicle safety.
• Ensures accurate and prompt reporting and investigation of all accidents, injuries, and near misses.
• Maintains location compliance with OSHA, DOT, licensing, permitting, and other applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Ensures required certifications and training are current for all location personnel.
