Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both inclusive and specialized settings.
- Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to meet individual learning goals.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to create an inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, IEP goals, and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student needs and progress.
- Provide training and support to staff on best practices for working with students with disabilities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and progress.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in special education through professional development opportunities.
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and independence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, preferably in an intermediate school setting.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to adapt instructional methods and materials to meet the needs of individual students.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and resources for students with disabilities is a plus.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
