Facility Improvement Corporation (FICO) helps commercial and institutional customers operate their buildings more efficiently, reliably, and safely through HVAC systems, building automation, controls, and integrated building technologies.

We're looking for a senior-level HVAC and Building Automation Service Technician with at least five years of relevant field experience who can independently troubleshoot complex systems, deliver high-quality service, and build lasting customer relationships.

This is an opportunity for an experienced technician who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership of their work, and expanding their expertise across commercial HVAC and building automation systems.

What you'll do

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC equipment and associated mechanical systems.

• Troubleshoot building automation systems (BAS/BMS), direct digital controls (DDC), sensors, actuators, controllers, and control sequences.

• Identify the root cause of equipment and system performance issues and implement effective, lasting solutions.

• Work with building automation interfaces, system graphics, alarms, trends, schedules, and setpoints to improve system operation.

• Interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, technical manuals, and control schematics.

• Perform preventive maintenance, system inspections, functional testing, and equipment commissioning or startup support as needed.

• Communicate technical findings, recommended repairs, and system operation clearly to customers.

• Document service activities, troubleshooting results, recommendations, and follow-up requirements accurately.

• Manage assigned service work independently while maintaining high standards for safety, workmanship, organization, and customer service.

• Collaborate with fellow technicians, project teams, and internal departments to resolve complex issues and support continuous improvement.

What we're looking for

Required qualifications

• At least five years of relevant HVAC service, building automation, controls, or closely related commercial field experience.

• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.

• Strong troubleshooting skills involving HVAC equipment, electrical components, control circuits, and system operation.

• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and mechanical or control drawings.

• Strong customer communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

• Ability to work safely in commercial and industrial environments and participate in after-hours service coverage as required.

Preferred qualifications

• Direct experience with commercial building automation systems, BAS/BMS, and DDC controls.

• Experience with HVAC control sequences, controller configuration, system integration, or programming.

• Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, or other building automation communication protocols.

• Experience with major building automation platforms such as Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, or comparable systems.

• EPA Section 608 certification, relevant trade credentials, or manufacturer-specific controls training.

• Experience mentoring technicians, coordinating service work, or serving as a technical resource for a team.
