About The Role
The Effector RF Design Department at Raytheon is seeking a highly skilled RF Design Engineer to join our team in Tucson, AZ. This role involves designing and developing RF and microwave hardware components, including transmitters, receivers, and exciters used in tactical missile programs. The successful candidate will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to create innovative solutions that meet stringent mechanical and environmental requirements. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical defense systems, ensuring operational effectiveness and resilience in challenging environments. The role requires onsite presence to facilitate hands-on testing, integration, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, supporting the full lifecycle of RF hardware development from conceptual design to final testing and validation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) fields, complemented by at least eight years of relevant experience in RF design and fabrication. Proven expertise in RF testing, troubleshooting, and simulation is essential, with familiarity in industry-standard tools such as Mentor DX Designer, HFSS, SystemVue/Genesys, and Advanced Design System (ADS). Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of RF circuit design, component characterization, and integration techniques. Experience working with complex RF products, designing for manufacturability, and optimizing for cost and yield is highly preferred. Additionally, candidates should have a solid background in high power RF design, filter design, frequency planning, and scripting languages like MATLAB or Python. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain an active and transferable DoD Secret security clearance are mandatory requirements for this role.
Responsibilities
The RF Design Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end development of RF hardware components, including designing, testing, and validating transmitters, receivers, and exciters. Key responsibilities include creating schematic diagrams and RF routing, designing circuit card assemblies (CCAs), and working in laboratory environments to characterize components and verify modules. The role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams—power, digital, mechanical, and systems engineering—to ensure seamless integration and performance. The engineer will also handle sensitive RF hardware, perform troubleshooting, and contribute to the development of innovative RF solutions that meet rigorous mechanical and environmental specifications. Documentation and technical reports are integral parts of the job, requiring minimal oversight and ensuring compliance with project and quality standards. Additionally, the role may involve leadership responsibilities, mentorship of junior engineers, and participation in technical reviews and design assessments.
Benefits
