Position Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for overall field operations on assigned NYC infrastructure projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents and NYC agency requirements.
This role serves as the primary field leader, coordinating crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and project management teams on complex, high-visibility projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership & Execution
- Lead all day-to-day construction activities across multiple crews and subcontractors
- Drive project schedule execution, including short-interval planning (look-ahead schedules)
- Ensure productivity targets are met for self-perform and subcontracted work
- Coordinate logistics in tight, urban NYC environments (street work, staging, access constraints)
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company safety program and ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOB, DOT, and client requirements
- Lead daily safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations
- Maintain Ferreira’s strong safety-first culture in the field
Project Coordination
- Partner with Project Managers and Engineers to execute project plans
- Coordinate inspections with NYC agencies (DEP, DOT, ConEd, Port Authority, etc.)
- Review drawings, specs, and ensure constructability in the field
- Identify and resolve conflicts proactively
Quality Control
- Ensure all work meets contract specifications and QA/QC standards
- Oversee testing, inspections, and documentation
- Maintain punch list and closeout processes
Cost & Change Management
- Track labor, equipment, and production rates
- Support change order identification, documentation, and field validation
- Minimize rework and cost overruns
Client & Stakeholder Interface
- Act as primary on-site contact for owners, inspectors, and stakeholders
- Maintain strong working relationships with unions, agencies, and community representatives
Qualifications:
Experience
- 10 years of construction experience, with 5 years as a Superintendent
- Strong background in one or more:
- Heavy civil (roads, bridges, airports)
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, electric, gas)
- Power / substation / energy projects
- Extensive experience working in NYC union environments
Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, and logistics
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and contracts
- Experience with scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) preferred
- Familiarity with NYC agencies and permitting processes
Leadership
- Proven ability to lead large field teams (20–100 personnel)
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
- Results-driven with accountability for schedule, safety, and cost
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 30 (required) / OSHA 40 (preferred)
- NYC DOB / SST certifications
- First Aid / CPR
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
