Early Childhood Speech Language Pathologist: Architect of Communication

Location: Ferguson-Florissant School District Early Education Centers

Year: 2026-2027 School Year (10-Month Position)

The Opportunity: Building the Foundation of Expression

In Ferguson-Florissant, we know that language is the foundation of every other academic skill. We are looking for a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist to join our Early Childhood team. You aren't just a clinician; you are a "Language Architect" who ensures our 3-to-5-year-old scholars have the communicative tools they need to transition successfully into Kindergarten.

As part of the FFSD "New Chapter," you will work within our general education early childhood centers to provide screenings, early intervention, and enrichment. If you are passionate about the "science of talk" and want to be the reason a child finds their voice early, your next movement starts here.

Role Summary

As an Early Childhood Speech-Language Pathologist, you will lead the district’s efforts in identifying and supporting communication needs in our youngest learners. You will conduct screenings, provide targeted interventions, and collaborate with Pre-K teachers to create "language-rich" classrooms. Your goal is to provide the early support that prevents future learning gaps, ensuring every child can express their needs, thoughts, and dreams clearly.

 Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Speech-Language Pathology or a valid Speech Language Pathologist License.
  • Clinical Excellence: Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (Required).
  • The "CFY" Welcome: We welcome both experienced CCC-SLPs and Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates looking for a supportive, high-growth environment.
  • Early Childhood Specialist: You understand that "therapy" for a preschooler looks like play, and you know how to embed goals into natural routines.
  • Equity Champion: You are committed to distinguishing between language differences and language disorders, ensuring every child is evaluated through a culturally responsive lens.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Early Identification: Lead the screening process for incoming Pre-K scholars to identify potential speech and language delays early.

  • Enrich the Environment: Partner with Lead Teachers to embed "tier-one" language strategies into daily classroom routines, centers, and storytimes.

  • Targeted Intervention: Provide high-quality individual and small-group support for students requiring specialized communication help.

  • Collaborate & Consult: Act as the building expert for teachers and staff on speech sounds, fluency, and oral language development.

  • Partner with Families: Provide parents with the "at-home" tools and confidence they need to support their child’s emerging communication skills.

Your Leadership Partners

  • Primary Support: Director of Early Childhood Education

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff
  • Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar (187 Days)
  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule
  • Benefits: Full-time Eligibility (Medical, Dental, Vision, and PSRS/PEERS Retirement).

The FFSD Advantage: Total Rewards & Support

We don't just hire clinicians; we invest in communication leaders.

  • Clinical Mentorship: New SLPs (and CFYs) are paired with experienced mentors to ensure a smooth transition into school-based practice.
  • Professional Growth: Generous professional development opportunities to maintain licensure and stay current on evidence-based practices.
  • Health & Heart: 100% district-paid medical, dental, and vision plans, plus access to the Ferg-Flor Care district health clinic.
  • The Tools You Need: Access to modern diagnostic kits, AAC technology, and a dedicated workspace within our Early Ed centers.
