FBFK is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our Orange County team. In this role, you will partner closely with attorneys and fellow paralegals to support complex litigation matters from intake through trial and appeal. The ideal candidate brings exceptional organizational skills, discretion, and a mastery of litigation workflows and deadlines in California state and federal courts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case management: organize and maintain case files, calendars, and litigation deadlines; manage discovery schedules and production logs.
  • Discovery: coordinate, draft, and format discovery requests and responses; manage e-discovery workflows with vendors; prepare privilege logs and deposition summaries.
  • Pleadings and motion practice: prepare, cite-check, and file pleadings, motions, and supporting papers with state and federal courts; manage service of process and proof filings.
  • Trial support: prepare exhibit lists, witness files, and trial binders; coordinate logistics; support attorneys during hearings, mediations, and trial.
  • Diligence and research: conduct factual research, summarize findings, and assist with investigative tasks; perform targeted legal research related to litigation and compliance.
  • Client and third-party communications: coordinate with clients, experts, court personnel, and opposing counsel on substantive case matters.
  • Closings and post-judgment: assemble closing binders, manage post-judgment filings, and track compliance.
  • Timekeeping: accurately record time and meet firm billable requirements for substantive legal tasks.

Paralegals are expected to accurately record time and meet firm billable requirements where required. Billable work includes substantive legal tasks that directly support client matters.

Examples of Billable Work

  • Drafting and formatting discovery requests and responses.
  • Preparing and filing pleadings and motions; cite-checking and proofing.
  • Conducting factual research and summarizing findings.
  • Managing e-discovery, document review, and privilege logs.
  • Preparing deposition summaries and trial binders/exhibit lists.
  • Client communications regarding substantive case matters.
  • Examples of Non-Billable Work
  • Administrative filings without substantive review.
  • Data entry or clerical updates to case management systems.
  • Scheduling meetings or coordinating logistics.
  • Internal administrative communications.
  • Timekeeping and reporting.
  • Training and internal meetings.
  • General document management or file maintenance.
  • IT or system troubleshooting.
Qualifications:
  • 5–10 years of litigation paralegal experience (mid to senior level) in a law firm setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred; Paralegal Certificate required if practicing in California.
  • Expert knowledge of California civil procedure and e-filing platforms; familiarity with federal courts a plus.
  • Proven experience managing complex discovery, deposition prep, and trial preparation.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; exceptional attention to detail.
  • High level of discretion and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with litigation-support and e-discovery tools.
  • Team-oriented communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, fully in-office environment.
