The Fergus Falls School District has an immediate opening for a full time Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) position beginning with the 2026-27 school year. This onsite position is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and collaborative OT who is passionate about helping students build skills that foster independence, learning, and meaningful participation in school.

Full-time wage range is $58,833/year - $92,401/year based on experience. This position has a benefit package that includes health insurance, life insurance; 403b contribution; long-term disability insurance; retirement benefits through the Teachers Retirement Association (TRA); and sick/personal leave.

The OTR evaluates, designs, and implements therapeutic interventions for students whose motor or sensory abilities impact their educational performance. Serving as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, this position conducts evaluations, manages IEP/IFSP service requirements and provides expert clinical consultation regarding fine motor, perceptual, sensory, and daily living skills. Additionally, the role oversees the delivery of diverse service models, supervises certified assistant staff, and in collaboration with other providers ensures compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, district policies, and procedures ensuring due process and service delivery for their assigned responsibilities.

  • Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy required
  • Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health in Occupational Therapy
  • Experience in due process procedures including conducting evaluations, writing IEPs/IFSPs, progress monitoring and meeting facilitation.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, demonstrating a wide variety of needs, ages birth to 22.
  • Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate well in both written and oral formats.
  • Current knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations, district policies and procedures; demonstrating the ability to apply these to ensure district due process and service delivery compliance.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies, software, equipment, tools, and devices utilized for delivering instruction, documenting assessments, tracking student progress, and addressing other classroom motor, sensory and therapeutic needs within the district.
  • Maintain good communication and cooperation with staff and parents by establishing a culture of respect.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team evaluation/assessment, develop and implement annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, accommodations, modifications, therapeutic goals and objectives, intervention strategies, and related service.
  • Provide expertise administering, scoring, interpreting special education assessment tools and procedures while addressing criteria for special education eligibility, evaluation and re-evaluation report writing.
  • Provide professional expertise in the fundamental principles and practices of occupational therapy procedures, methods and techniques to parents, educational service providers, special education teachers, social services, public health, and medical providers to ensure the effective delivery of services and to interpret student progress accurately as outlined in the IEP or IFSP.
  • Maintain and submit third party billing documentation for eligible students.
  • Consult with classroom teachers regarding classroom accommodations, instructional modifications, incorporating motor activities, fostering self-help skills, utilizing visual supports, integrating special equipment, and implementing other instructional interventions to address the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Engage in meetings, to include IEP, IFSP, conferences, training sessions, department meetings, home visits, transition planning, and in-services. These meetings aim to develop therapeutic plans and provide information on students' goals and objectives.
  • Implement a variety of service delivery models including push-in classroom intervention, indirect/consultation, and pull-out intervention as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Utilize a variety of materials and teaching techniques including evidence-based practices while utilizing a system of continuous progress monitoring and accurate record keeping of each student's progress.
  • Encourage and instruct parents and educational staff in appropriate methods to assist the student with disabilities.
  • Implement a system for the maintenance, ordering, and inventory record-keeping of materials and equipment.
  • Supervise and work collaboratively with certified occupational therapy assistants in the development of screening, observation, evaluation and report writing duties.
  • Work with the certified occupational therapy assistant in the development of treatment plans, goals and objectives, and implementing effective data collection methods to demonstrate student progress.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal and special education administrator(s).
