Welcome to The Family!! The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the clinical pharmacy team in delivering efficient, patient-centered pharmacy services within a primary care setting. This role works collaboratively with pharmacists, providers, nursing staff, and patients to address medications access needs, support pharmacy-related workflows, and improve overall patient care operations. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, team-oriented, and eager to learn and grow within an ambulatory care environment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision of the clinical pharmacist, the pharmacy technician will assist with pharmacy-related operations and patient support activities including:
- Lead completion of prior authorizations: complete prior authorization forms, negotiate authorization status with insurers, track status of prescription approval, and when necessary, alert clinical pharmacist/primary care provider of denials or nonresponse.
- Address medication refill requests from patients and pharmacies utilizing practice protocol.
- Assist in solving medication access and formulary issues to determine cost-effective treatment alternatives.
- Coordinate timely delivery of medications to be administered in the office.
- Facilitate enrollment of patients in patient assistance programs and grants.
- Respond to patient messages regarding non-clinical, pharmacy-related concerns.
- Assist pharmacy-related quality improvement measures:
- Address medication adherence concerns and document in electronic platforms appropriately
- Track and organize patients at need for pharmacy interventions to reach quality metrics
- Support a collaborative team environment by communicating effectively, assisting with workflow needs, and adapting to changing priorities throughout the workday.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience required
- Previous community pharmacy or clinic experience preferred
- Training in electronic health records (EHR)/Athena preferred
- Experience with CoverMyMeds or other payer platforms preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in North Carolina or eligible
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification preferred. If not certified at the time of hire, must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
