Fairview has an exciting opportunity to join our Fairview Quality Internship program working directly with our Quality Improvement team! We have 8 positions open for students looking to expand their Quality Improvement knowledge!
Job Overview
M Health Fairview Quality internship program for graduate students and those that recently completed an undergraduate degree. This position is a 32 to 40 hours per week for an 8-12 week period (flexible start and duration, May through August) to impact the care of patients while gaining valuable healthcare and quality improvement skills. The intern will be provided unique opportunities to learn quality improvement methodologies, project management, data analysis, and patient safety principles while working at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, a large academic medical center in Minneapolis, Minnesota
About the position:
- 0.8 FTE - 1.0 FTE (32-40 hours per week)

- Mobile position: this position will have onsite components.

Job Expectations:
- Core work will align with the strategic plan across Quality and Safety.
- Oversight and meetings with quality leader
- Participate in a quality improvement educational session with adult/pediatric residents
- Hands on experience with data collection and analysis, and chart reviews
- Rounding with providers, nurses, patients and family
- Attend team meetings/discussions
- Expand on one’s understanding of hospital operations and quality and safety goals, while learning from experienced QI consultants
- Participate in process improvement projects as designated by QI Team
- Opportunity to create a portfolio piece of work product based on project work during the internship
- Ability to work as a part of a team, strong interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:
Required
Education
- Current graduate student, recent undergraduate
Experience
- Basic office software ability
- Proficiency with math, basic statistics
- Excel user
License/Certification/Registration
- Unrestricted ability to work in an acute-care facility
Preferred
Education
- Preferred fields of study:
- Medical Students
- DNP
- MHA
- Industrial Engineering/Management or other improvement-focused track
- Epidemiology or other life sciences
- Pre-med
Experience
- Experience in quality or process improvement
- Experience in healthcare, particularly healthcare delivery
- EPIC or other EMR experience
- Statistical analysis
- Any coding experience a plus
License/Certification/Registration
- IHI Basic Certification in Quality and Safety
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow/Green/or Black Belt
Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):
Familiarity with spreadsheets and awareness of electronic health record
