The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to implement treatment plans, assist residents in achieving their functional goals, and provide essential rehabilitative care. The PTA also monitors resident progress and educates residents and families to ensure the best outcomes.

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the licensed therapist in the overall assessment of residents.
• Support the licensed therapist in performing tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures.
• Implement resident care programs as directed by the licensed therapist.
• Carry out exercise programs and train residents in exercise, ambulation, and activities of daily living according to the Resident Care Plan.
• Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, functional training, and mobility activities.
• Administer treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat/cold therapy, and other modalities as directed by the PT.
• Monitor patient progress and report changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and injury prevention.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of treatments and patient progress.
• Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment in a safe and sanitary manner.
• Observe, report, and chart residents’ responses to the licensed therapist.
• Participate in resident, family, and staff education as needed.
• Assist with cleaning treatment and department areas.
• Adhere to all safety, confidentiality, and professional standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.
  
  
  

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Compensation and Schedule:

Location: Fairport Rehab and Nursing Center – Fairport, NY

Pay Range: $34.00 – $40.00 per hour

Schedule: Per diem – must have weekend availability

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Qualification and Skills:

• Graduate of an accredited 2-year Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current NYS license for Physical Therapy Assistant.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
• Physical stamina to assist residents and perform treatment activities.
• Must be available for weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions (reasonable accommodation may apply).
• Ability to function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with residents, staff, families, and external agencies.
• Experience in geriatric, orthopedic, or pediatric rehabilitation.
• Experience working with elderly residents and/or in a healthcare setting.
• Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Knowledge of therapy procedures and ability to advocate for seniors and families.
• Ability to motivate residents and provide compassionate care.
• Be a team player and work cooperatively with all facility staff.
