- Assist the licensed therapist in the overall assessment of residents.
- Support the licensed therapist in performing tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures.
- Implement resident care programs as directed by the licensed therapist.
- Carry out exercise programs and train residents in exercise, ambulation, and activities of daily living according to the Resident Care Plan.
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, functional training, and mobility activities.
- Administer treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat/cold therapy, and other modalities as directed by the PT.
- Monitor patient progress and report changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and injury prevention.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of treatments and patient progress.
- Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Observe, report, and chart residents’ responses to the licensed therapist.
- Participate in resident, family, and staff education as needed.
- Assist with cleaning treatment and department areas.
- Adhere to all safety, confidentiality, and professional standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Qualification and Skills:
- Graduate of an accredited 2-year Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current NYS license for Physical Therapy Assistant.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical stamina to assist residents and perform treatment activities.
- Must be available for weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions (reasonable accommodation may apply).
- Ability to function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with residents, staff, families, and external agencies.
- Experience in geriatric, orthopedic, or pediatric rehabilitation.
- Experience working with elderly residents and/or in a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Knowledge of therapy procedures and ability to advocate for seniors and families.
- Ability to motivate residents and provide compassionate care.
- Be a team player and work cooperatively with all facility staff.
