NATURE OF WORK
Fairfield Memorial Hospital is seeking a compassionate, detail‑oriented Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgery Department. This role is essential to ensuring safe, high‑quality perioperative care for patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The Surgery/OR RN works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team to support excellent clinical outcomes and an exceptional patient experience. The RN provides high‑quality nursing care in Same Day Surgery, the Operating Room, and the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This role supports both the psychosocial and physical needs of patients while upholding AORN standards and the mission, ethics, and goals of Fairfield Memorial Hospital. The RN functions as a resource, educator, and team collaborator, demonstrating initiative, professionalism, and a commitment to patient safety. This position includes participation in a rotating call schedule, which supports after‑hours surgical and emergency needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative nursing care across all age groups.
- Perform comprehensive head‑to‑toe assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
- Safely manage and operate surgical equipment and technology.
- Administer medications and IV fluids accurately based on patient condition and age.
- Lead and participate in surgical “Time Out” procedures and fire risk assessments.
- Maintain sterile technique and uphold aseptic standards during all procedures.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, coworkers, and other departments.
- Demonstrate competency in cardiac monitoring and identification of dysrhythmias.
- Provide patient and family education using the “teach back” method.
- Assist with instrument sterilization, high‑level disinfection, and equipment maintenance (if trained to scrub).
- Prepare, clean, and restock OR suites, including terminal cleaning when required.
- Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory standards (IDPH, JCAHO, AAMI, AORN).
- Participate in continuous performance improvement initiatives.
- Respond to after‑hours surgical needs as part of the rotating call schedule.
COMPENSATION: $34.00 – $46.50 per hour Shift Differential (Weekday Night: $3.00 per hour; Weekend: $4.00 per hour)
SCHEDULE: Day Shift; Monday – Friday On Call

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois; Current BLS certification; ACLS certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire); PALS certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire).
- Preferred: CNOR certification.
EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: Experience in Same Day Surgery, OR Circulating, Scrubbing, or PACU.
