What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Small Engine Mechanic position at FACS Small Engines?
About the Role
FACS Small Engines is a new, growing small engine repair shop based in St. Petersburg. We service lawn equipment like mowers, trimmers, and blowers for both homeowners and local landscaping crews.
We’re looking for a part-time mechanic to help with repair work as jobs come in.
Important: This is a startup. Workload will be inconsistent at first - some weeks may be busy, others slower. This is best suited for someone looking for flexible side work, not guaranteed hours.
- Working on a mix of equipment including mowers, trimmers, and blowers
- Figuring out what’s wrong and getting it fixed without overcomplicating things
- Handling common repairs like tune-ups, carb issues, pull cords, etc.
- Taking on bigger repairs when needed (engine issues, part replacements, etc.)
- Keeping jobs moving so equipment isn’t sitting around waiting
- Keeping your workspace clean and organized so things don’t turn into chaos
- Writing down basic notes on what was done so we can track jobs
- Paid per job / per repair (not hourly)
- Pay varies based on the work being done
- Opportunity to make more as job volume increases
- Part-time, flexible
- Work is based on incoming jobs
- No fixed schedule or guaranteed hours (especially early on)
- Someone who already knows how to work on small engines
- Can diagnose and fix issues without needing constant direction
- Shows up when they say they will
- Takes pride in doing the job right the first time
- Comfortable working in a small, startup-style environment
- Need steady, guaranteed hours right away
- Prefer a highly structured or supervised environment
- Don’t have hands-on experience with small engine repair
Right now, this is a part-time role. As the business grows, there is potential for more consistent work and increased responsibility.
