Key Responsibilities:
- Measure finished workpiece dimensions using precision instruments, templates, and fixtures to ensure 100% conformance to technical specifications.
- Mount, install, align, and secure essential tools, attachments, and workpieces using hand tools and high-precision measuring instruments.
- Monitor machine operations by ear to proactively detect dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and perform immediate adjustments to maintain peak performance.
- Adjust machine speeds, feeds, and controls manually when automatic programming or mechanical malfunctions occur.
- Manage machine cycles by stopping equipment to remove finished parts, swap tooling, or update setups according to required machining sequences.
- Utilize general bench skills including the expert use of hand-held power tools, files, and complex assembly/disassembly.
- Manually load workpieces into machines or safely operate hoists and cranes for heavier materials.
- Calculate critical machine speed and feed ratios while determining the exact size and position of required cuts.
- Master the setup and operation of Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL), Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM), Vertical Grinders, Horizontal Grinders, and Horizontal Engine Lathes.
- Efficiently move materials, tools, and fixtures throughout the facility as required to maintain a seamless workflow.
- Execute other related ad-hoc duties as required to support our high-performance manufacturing goals.
Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Apprenticeship or formal technical training in a machining specialty is highly preferred.
- 5 years of machine shop experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and technical procedure documents.
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to utilize digital tools for reporting or communication.
- Proficiency in shop mathematics to ensure precision in all machining cuts and ratios.
- Proven reasoning skills with the ability to solve practical problems and interpret complex instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Familiarity with standard industry practices and the ability to use equipment and tools safely and creatively to accomplish goals.
- Self-motivated mindset with the ability to work both independently and as a vital part of a collaborative team.
Physical Demands & Environment:
To succeed in this active, hands-on role, you should be prepared for the following (with or without reasonable accommodation):
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, squat, and reach with hands and arms throughout the shift.
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel materials and tools with high manual dexterity.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for precision work.
- Ability to talk and hear clearly to communicate with team members and monitor machine health through sound.
