Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the Design Engineer will design sheet metal products from components to complete assemblies. This role focuses on meeting or exceeding customer production and quality standards while ensuring on-time delivery. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, collaborative, and comfortable working on engineered-to-order and reverse engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop parts for manufacture from customer models or concepts
- Review and interpret customer specifications to ensure manufacturability with current capabilities
- Communicate directly with customer engineering and procurement teams to clarify requirements
- Program and maintain design layouts in SolidWorks, ensuring accurate document storage and control
- Follow company processes for documentation, design standards, and version control
- Redesign standard products to improve quality, productivity, and cost efficiency
- Evaluate and select components and materials for products
- Collaborate with purchasing to initiate purchase orders for required components
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3–5 years of related experience, or 7–10 years of progressively responsible related experience
- Experience in metal fabrication or working with sheet metal required
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (experience with other CAD tools is acceptable if willing to transition)
- Experience with FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and professional documentation
