What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strategic Operations Manager position at ExpandIQ?
Strategic Operator, GTM
Level: Senior Manager / Director
Location: New York, NY
$160k-$190k Equity
Overview
We’re partnering with a high-growth, venture-backed consumer platform to hire a Strategic Operator (GTM)—a high-impact individual contributor who will take ownership of the company’s most critical go-to-market initiatives.
This is a unique role for someone who thrives in ambiguity and wants to operate at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will be deployed against the highest-priority growth problems, build the solution from the ground up, and then transition ownership once the system is running.
This is not a support or coordination role—this is true ownership from diagnosis to build to scale.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of high-priority, underdeveloped GTM initiatives and drive them end-to-end
- Diagnose what’s broken, identify gaps, and build the systems needed to fix them
- Deliver concrete outputs such as:
- Operational workflows and playbooks
- Performance frameworks and dashboards
- Channel or program infrastructure
- Operate as a hands-on individual contributor, building before scaling
- Transition ownership once initiatives are stable and move on to the next critical problem
- Act as a force multiplier for senior leadership, fully owning projects rather than supporting them
Types of Problems You’ll Solve
- Building the operational foundation for new or underdeveloped acquisition channels
- Launching and scaling new markets or customer segments
- Designing performance and retention frameworks across GTM programs
- Creating reporting and analytics systems to drive visibility and decision-making
What We’re Looking For
- 5–8 years of experience combining strategic thinking with hands-on execution
- Background may include consulting operating experience, or a strong operator with analytical rigor
- Proven track record of owning ambiguous, high-impact projects from start to finish
- Strong analytical ability—comfortable building:
- Performance frameworks
- Metrics and dashboards
- Decision-making models
- Comfortable operating as an IC without a pre-built team or infrastructure
- Experience in high-growth, consumer-facing environments preferred
- Exposure to regulated or trust-based categories (e.g., legal, fintech, healthcare) is a plus
What This Role Is (and Is Not)
This is:
- A high-autonomy, high-ownership role with direct exposure to leadership
- A mix of strategy and execution—you build what you design
- A dynamic role where you’ll tackle multiple distinct problems over time
This is not:
- A traditional strategy role that stops at recommendations
- A pure project management or coordination function
- A narrowly scoped, single-lane position
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Former consultant who has transitioned into an operator role and thrives in execution
- or
- Startup operator with strong analytical rigor and structured thinking
In both cases:
- You’ve taken ownership of something messy and made it work
- You move quickly and make decisions with imperfect information
- You measure success by what you’ve built and shipped—not what you’ve advised
Bottom Line
This is a role for someone who doesn’t wait for clarity—they create it.
You’ll be dropped into the company’s most important problems, expected to figure them out, build the solution, and leave behind something that lasts.
Salary : $160,000 - $190,000
