Our Land Development Division supports residential subdivision development through site work, land clearing, grading, erosion control, utility installation, and infrastructure development.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Erosion Control Crew Member to join our team. This is a hands-on field position for someone with previous experience in erosion control, site development, grading, or a related construction environment who is comfortable operating equipment, including water trucks.

Our office is located in Elgin, SC, but this position will work in the field at active job sites throughout the Greater Columbia, SC territory.

Position Summary

The Erosion Control Crew Member assists with the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of erosion and sediment control measures throughout active residential development projects.

This position requires previous relevant field experience and the ability to safely operate equipment used in land development and erosion control operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, comfortable working outdoors, and willing to perform both equipment operation and hands-on labor based on the needs of the crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, inspect, and repair erosion and sediment control measures, including silt fence, inlet protection, wattles, erosion control matting, and other Best Management Practices (BMPs).
• Safely operate water trucks for dust control, soil stabilization, site maintenance, and other project needs.
• Operate construction equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes, and other machinery as assigned and based on experience.
• Conduct routine pre-operation inspections of trucks and equipment and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Assist with erosion-control maintenance and corrective work to help keep active development sites compliant and operational.
• Perform general construction and site labor, including lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Safely operate hand tools and power equipment, including weed eaters, chainsaws, brush cutters, shovels, and other tools used for erosion control and site maintenance.
• Follow company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, environmental compliance standards, and established job-site practices.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, equipment operators, and crew members to complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites.
• Identify and report potential erosion-control, safety, equipment, or site concerns to supervision.
• Perform additional land development and erosion-control duties as assigned based on project needs.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience in erosion control, land development, site work, grading, construction, or a closely related field is required.
• Previous experience operating a water truck is required.
• Experience working around active construction sites and heavy-equipment operations.
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and site conditions.
• Ability to follow instructions, recognize job-site hazards, and complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
• Dependable attendance, strong work ethic, and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
• Effective communication skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience installing and maintaining erosion and sediment control BMPs.
• Experience operating skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes, or similar construction equipment.
• Residential subdivision or land-development experience.
• Knowledge of basic erosion-control and stormwater compliance practices.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
