Our Land Development Division supports residential subdivision development through site work, land clearing, grading, erosion control, utility installation, and infrastructure development.

As our operations continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Erosion Control Crew Lead to provide hands-on leadership for our erosion control field operations.

This is not a desk-based supervisory position. The Crew Lead will work alongside the team in the field while providing direction, coordinating daily work, operating equipment, maintaining safety and productivity standards, and helping ensure our active development sites remain compliant.

Our office is located in Elgin, SC, with field work performed at active project sites throughout the Greater Columbia, SC territory.

Position Summary

The Erosion Control Crew Lead is responsible for leading daily erosion and sediment control activities across residential land development projects.

This position requires a strong combination of field leadership, erosion-control knowledge, site-development experience, and heavy-equipment operation. The Crew Lead will coordinate team members, equipment, materials, and daily priorities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, Best Management Practices (BMPs), and applicable Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).

The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on leader who can assess site conditions, determine what needs to be accomplished, effectively direct a crew, and operate heavy equipment alongside the team when needed.

Previous Motor grader, Trico, dozer, and large excavator experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily erosion-control activities on active residential land development projects.
• Provide hands-on supervision and direction to field crew members while working alongside the team as needed.
• Plan daily work assignments and coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and priorities to maintain production schedules.
• Install, maintain, inspect, and repair erosion and sediment control measures, including silt fence, inlet protection, wattles, erosion-control matting, stabilization measures, and other BMPs.
• Monitor job-site conditions and identify erosion-control deficiencies or areas requiring corrective action.
• Ensure work is performed in accordance with approved SWPPPs, BMP requirements, environmental standards, and project specifications.
• Read and interpret site plans, grading plans, erosion-control plans, and related construction drawings.
• Conduct field inspections and communicate deficiencies, corrective actions, material needs, and project concerns to appropriate leadership.
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, inspectors, developers, and other field personnel as needed.
• Safely operate and oversee the operation of heavy construction and land-development equipment.
• Operate dozers and large excavators as part of daily land-development and erosion-control operations.
• Utilize Trico equipment/processes as required for field operations.
• Operate water trucks for dust control, soil stabilization, site maintenance, and other project needs.
• Operate skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes, hydroseeders, and similar equipment as needed.
• Operate a motor grader when qualified; previous motor grader experience is strongly preferred.
• Conduct and oversee routine equipment inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Train, coach, and mentor crew members on proper erosion-control techniques, equipment operation, safety expectations, and job-site standards.
• Monitor crew productivity, workmanship, attendance, and adherence to company expectations.
• Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection information, and other required field documentation.
• Promote a safe, organized, professional, and productive work environment.
• Ensure company vehicles, equipment, tools, and materials are properly maintained and cared for.
• Perform hands-on field work and additional land-development duties as project needs require.

Required Qualifications

• Previous professional experience in erosion control, land development, grading, site work, heavy civil construction, or a closely related field.
• Previous experience leading, supervising, or directing field employees or construction crews.
• Previous Trico experience required.
• Previous dozer operating experience required.
• Previous large excavator operating experience required.
• Demonstrated experience safely operating heavy equipment in an active construction or land-development environment.
• Working knowledge of erosion and sediment control BMPs and field practices.
• Ability to identify erosion-control deficiencies and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, grading plans, site plans, and erosion-control drawings.
• Ability to effectively organize daily work, prioritize responsibilities, and coordinate people and equipment across active projects.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to be a hands-on leader who works alongside the crew when needed.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
• Reliable attendance and dependable transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and site conditions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds when required.
