Exceptional Equestrians is a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides almost 500 medically based equine-assisted sessions per month for children, teens and adults throughout Northeastern Wisconsin. Through these services, the participants can build on physical, emotional, and cognitive skills, increasing their quality of life. We are a pediatric therapy practice that believes in meeting children where they thrive, whether in the clinic at our outpatient center or in the arena. Our services combine outpatient pediatric occupational and physical therapy with the unique benefits of hippotherapy, using equine movement as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Position Overview
As we grow into 2026, which includes expansion of our physical space and programming, we are seeking to add one licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to our team! We are looking for individuals who are passionate about working with children in both a traditional outpatient clinic and an equine-assisted therapy setting. This role offers the best of both worlds: combining best-practice principles from both the clinic and equine-integrated practice environments to maximize overall functional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform thorough pediatric evaluations, including developmental, sensory, and motor assessments.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for children with a variety of diagnoses (e.g., developmental delays, CP, autism, sensory processing challenges).
• Provide therapy sessions in both outpatient clinic and hippotherapy environments.
• Collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members to support carryover at home and school. This may also include holding a supervisory relationship with one of our occupational or physical therapy assistants.
• Ensure safety and effectiveness during equine-assisted sessions in partnership with our equine manager, designated HPCS specialist, & trained horse handlers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all professional and ethical standards.
Qualifications
• Licensed PT in Wisconsin with up-to-date qualifications.
• At least 1 year of pediatric therapy experience preferred.
• CPR/First Aid certified.
• Comfortable working around horses (training provided if needed).
Preferred Skills
• Strong background in sensory integration, neurodevelopmental treatment, and motor learning.
• Ability to adapt activities creatively for diverse needs.
• Excellent communication and family education skills.
• Equine experience and knowledge are highly desirable but not required.
