What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Sample Prep Operator position at Excelsior Mining, Inc.?
Gunnison Copper-formerly Excelsior Mining has an immediate employment opportunity for Lab Sample Prep Operator(s) at its operations at Johnson Camp Mine / Gunnison Project located in southeastern Arizona between the cities of Benson and Willcox.
Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager/Lab technician, the Lab prep operator will process samples received from mine to analyze them in the assay lab. He will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of analytical testing by meticulously preparing samples for analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples for analytical assays performed in mine samples (collect, dry, crush, pulverize).
- Record weight and process daily samples received.
- Ensure proper identification of samples during all stages of the preparation process.
- Proper use of equipment to avoid cross contamination of samples.
- Follow priorities as per instructions from the laboratory.
- Ensure samples received match with list provided by mine.
- Perform operation, diagnostics, adjusting or calibration to sample prep equipment.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the ample prep. area and equipment.
- Other activities as needed.
- Train and develop sample prep. operators in all aspects of sample prep. Duties.
- Always wear and use proper PPE as per company policies and procedures.
- Work safely in accordance with company policies and MSHA requirements, identifying Hazards, develop pre-shift inspections and report any unsafe conditions.

- Have and follow good working practices to maintain a clean work area in accordance with standard lab practice and procedures.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
- Perform preventive maintenance to sample prep equipment and keep it in optimal performance.
- Identify and resolve issues related to sample preparation procedures and equipment.
- Develop a culture of high performance and behaviors that are consistent with company values.
Qualifications:
- Ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise during sample preparation.
- Understanding how to use various equipment and following established procedures.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, desired
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures including personal protection equipment (PPE) and standard lab safety procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sample prep equipment operation.
- Secondary or high School or commiserate level experience.
- 1 years working in sample prep environment, preferred.
