The Manager, Power Engineering is responsible for the technical leadership, engineering oversight, and lifecycle support of power generation assets utilizing reciprocating internal combustion engines and gas turbine power plants, operating on natural gas, and diesel fuels. This role provides subject-matter expertise across design, operation, performance optimization, reliability, maintenance strategies, fuel systems, environment compliance, and capital upgrades for utility-scale and industrial power facilities, including dual-fuel and fuel-switching configurations commonly used in LNG-adjacent and remote power applications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following activities:
Engineering Leadership & Asset Support
- Serve as the technical authority for reciprocating engine and gas turbine power systems, electrical substations, including auxiliaries and balance-of-plant systems.
- Provide engineering support to operating plants including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and forced outage investigations.
- Perform electrical load and power consumption calculations for IPP, resorts, industrial plants, and small‑scale applications, including combined heat and power (CHP) and combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP) systems.
- Develop demand profiles and peak load estimates to support electrical and thermal system sizing, utility coordination, and capital planning.
- Conduct technical due diligence of existing power plants, gas turbines, and reciprocating engines, including review of operating history, performance data, maintenance records, reliability metrics, and and remaining life considerations
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and design philosophies.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, calculations, and vendor documentation.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, HSSEQ, Commercial, and Project teams.
- Serve as technical interface with utilities, regulators, and partners.
- Participate in investigations into major equipment failures or forced outages
- Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
Design, Projects & Modifications
- Support feasibility studies, CAPEX/OPEX estimation, FEED, and detailed engineering for new plants and expansions.
- Prepare technical scoping documents for RFP.
- Provide technical input to procurement, bid evaluations, and contract scopes.
- Lead or support capital projects, retrofits, uprates, fuel conversions, and life-extension programs.
- Interface with EPC contractors and OEMs through design, construction, commissioning, and testing.
Fuel Systems & Combustion
- Provide engineering oversight for natural gas, and diesel fuel systems including storage, vaporization, conditioning, and safety systems.
- Support dual-fuel and tri-fuel engine configurations and fuel changeover logic.
- Evaluate fuel quality impacts on performance, emissions, and maintenance.
- Support NG vaporization systems and combustion tuning activities.
Performance, Reliability & Optimization
- Establish and monitor KPIs for efficiency, availability, reliability, heat rate, and emissions.
- Develop reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
- Support condition monitoring programs and performance trending.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reduction.
Compliance, Safety & Risk
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Support HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other safety reviews.
- Provide engineering input to environmental permitting and grid interconnection.
- Promote safety-by-design principles.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (required); Professional Engineer preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in power generation engineering.
- Direct experience with reciprocating engines and/or gas turbine power plants.
- Hands-on experience with LNG, and diesel-fueled power plants, including dual-fuel operation.
- Experience supporting operating assets and executing capital projects and fuel conversions.
- Knowledge with major OEMs (e.g., Wärtsilä, MAN, Caterpillar, GE, Siemens, Solar, Mitsubishi, Jenbacher) preferred.
- Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required. Approx. 10-20%
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Approximately 20%.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily office-based with periodic travel to operating power plants and construction sites. Must be able to work safely in industrial environments and comply with site safety requirements.
