What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Data Engineering Lead - Hybrid position at Evolution USA?
We’re partnering with a fast-growing, mission-driven health technology company operating at the intersection of data engineering, medical imaging, and applied AI. With strong clinical traction and growing data volumes, the company is rebuilding its data foundations to support the next phase of product and ML development.
This is a senior, hands-on role for a Clinical Data Engineering Lead who will own high-impact data systems end to end and set the technical bar for everything that follows.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Own and redesign mission-critical clinical data ingestion pipelines from the ground up
- Work deeply with medical imaging and unstructured clinical data at scale
- High trust, high autonomy environment with direct impact on ML and product outcomes
- Opportunity to shape engineering standards now, with a path to future team leadership
What You’ll Do
- Own clinical data pipelines end to end: ingestion, transformation, storage, validation, and governance
- Build scalable pipelines for messy, heterogeneous datasets, including image-derived data
- Implement data quality frameworks, validation checks, and monitoring
- Define data lineage, governance, and documentation suitable for regulated environments
- Partner closely with ML and software engineers to support model development and production workflows
- Act as the internal authority on clinical data assets and technical best practices
This role is expected to be ~80% engineering / ~20% applied data & science, with a strong emphasis on robust, production-grade systems.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience designing and owning data ingestion pipelines for complex, messy data
- Strong hands-on skills with Python and SQL
- Experience building data systems in cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- Close collaboration history with ML, data science, or analytics teams
- Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor with broad ownership
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset
Highly Valued Experience
- Medical imaging or image-based data workflows (DICOM helpful but not required)
- Clinical, scientific, or biomedical data exposure
- Regulated data environments (e.g. HIPAA, FDA, audit readiness)
- Workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Metaflow, Prefect, or similar)
- Experience modernising or rebuilding legacy data platforms
Working Model & Compensation
- Hybrid working model with a strong preference for Boston-area candidates
- Remote considered only for exceptional profiles
- Competitive base salary plus bonus and meaningful equity
- Comprehensive benefits package
Culture & Environment
This is a tech-first engineering culture that is fast-moving, ownership-driven, and impact-oriented. You’ll be trusted to make decisions, solve ambiguous problems, and build foundations others depend on.
Salary : $180,000 - $200,000
