Director of Human Resources

Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources is a senior leadership position responsible for developing and implementing human resource strategies that support the organization's mission, values, and strategic goals. This position oversees all aspects of Human Resources, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, training and development, succession planning, and organizational culture.

As a member of the leadership team, the Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership and fosters a trauma-informed, inclusive, and employee-centered workplace that supports employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.


Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Workforce Planning

  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational goals and mission.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Lead succession planning initiatives to ensure leadership continuity.
  • Support organizational growth and change management efforts.
  • Utilize HR metrics and workforce analytics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.

Talent Acquisition & Employee Engagement

  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention programs.
  • Develop strategies to attract and retain a highly qualified and mission-driven workforce.
  • Build partnerships with educational institutions, professional organizations, and recruiting resources.
  • Promote employee engagement, recognition, and workplace culture initiatives.

    Employee Relations & Performance Management

  • Provide leadership and guidance on employee relations matters.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and oversee progressive discipline processes.
  • Support managers in coaching, performance evaluations, and employee development.
  • Resolve employee concerns and workplace conflicts in a fair and timely manner.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and trauma-informed work environment.
  • Learning, Development & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Identify training needs and implement employee development programs.
  • Develop leadership development and career advancement opportunities.
  • Support organizational effectiveness initiatives that enhance workforce performance.
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging throughout the organization.
  • Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations

  • Oversee compensation programs, salary benchmarking, and benefits administration.
  • Manage HR systems, employee records, reporting, and departmental budgets.
  • Monitor HR service delivery and ensure efficient HR operations.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate and enhance employee benefit offerings.
  • Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook updates.
  • Oversee HR audits, regulatory reporting, and compliance activities.
  • Establish controls and practices that mitigate employment-related risk and protect organizational interests.

 

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5- years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Must have leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Experience leading strategic HR initiatives and organizational change.
  • Nonprofit and executive-level HR leadership experience preferred.

Preferred Certifications

  • SHRM-SCP (Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional)
  • SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources)

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with flexibility and limited hybrid.
  • Occasional travel to varies regions.
  • Fast-paced environment requires strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet all background screening requirements.

Salary : $85,000 - $110,000
