Pre-qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; an associate's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred. 2 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably in the construction or industrial sector.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Certifications: OSHA 30-hour certification, First Aid/CPR certification required; additional certifications in HSE (e.g., CSP, ASP) are a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with safety management systems and incident reporting tools is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations; ability to interpret and apply safety standards.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and confidently.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy, safety, and compliance, with the ability to maintain thorough documentation.
- Team Player: Works well in a collaborative environment and can influence employees at all levels to promote a safety culture.
- Experience with incident investigation methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis).
- Familiarity with construction safety practices and equipment.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems and sustainability initiatives.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure the company's adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) by conducting regular site inspections and audits.
- Incident Investigation: Assist with investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, and ensure that proper corrective actions are taken.
- Safety Training & Education: Develop and facilitate safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientations and annual refreshers on topics such as hazard communication, PPE, and emergency response.
- Program Development: Assist in the creation, implementation, and management of health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
- Risk Assessment: Perform regular risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records and reports for incidents, inspections, audits, and training. Ensure timely submission of reports to regulatory bodies, as required.
- Safety Meetings: Coordinate and lead regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site safety briefings to ensure all employees are informed about safety protocols.
- PPE Management: Oversee the procurement and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its proper usage across the workforce.
- Emergency Response: Act as a key point of contact in emergency situations, ensuring that all procedures are followed and response teams are mobilized.
- Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors, managers, and employees to promote safety awareness and maintain an environment of continuous improvement in HSE practices.
- Contractor Management: Monitor and ensure that subcontractors and third-party vendors comply with the company's safety policies and procedures.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Assist in the implementation of environmental programs related to waste management, pollution control, and sustainable practices.
