Director of Finance
Location: Syracuse, NY
Salary: $110,000–$125,000
Overview
We are seeking a Director of Finance to lead accounting and financial operations for a well-established organization in the Syracuse area. This is the most senior finance role in the organization, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and partnering closely with leadership to support financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
- Ensure GAAP compliance and manage month-end, quarterly, and year-end close
- Coordinate audits, reviews, and tax filings with external partners
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide variance analysis
- Manage project accounting, billing, revenue recognition, and profitability reporting
- Oversee time and expense systems and labor cost allocation
- Maintain and improve accounting systems, controls, and financial processes (NetSuite, MS Dynamics, Deltek Vantagepoint or similar)
- Supervise and mentor a small accounting staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA a plus but not required.
- 10 years of accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong project accounting experience required
- Proficiency with project-based accounting systems and Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
