A well-established, family-oriented California General Contractor (~$350M revenue) is hiring a Senior Estimator to support continued growth within their Northern California operations, reporting directly into the Chief Estimator.
This contractor operates across commercial, education, life sciences, healthcare, multifamily, and mixed-use sectors, with a growing presence in industrial and data centre work. Known for a “hire for careers, not projects” approach, they maintain a strong backlog, controlled growth strategy, and a genuine focus on employee wellbeing and long-term development.
Projects typically range from $1M–$100M, with a strong pipeline of repeat clients and negotiated work.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading full-cycle estimating efforts across conceptual, negotiated, and hard-bid projects
- Preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals aligned with company standards
- Managing subcontractor outreach, bid coverage, and scope evaluations
- Reviewing plans, specifications, and bid requirements to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Partnering with Project Managers and clients during preconstruction phases
- Conducting value engineering and cost analysis to optimize project outcomes
- Leading and mentoring junior estimators and supporting team development
- Preparing estimate turnover packages for seamless transition to operations
- Supporting post-bid buyout and subcontractor selection processes
What we’re looking for:
- 7 years of experience in construction estimating with a General Contractor
- Proven experience delivering commercial projects (ideally across multiple sectors)
- Strong understanding of preconstruction, subcontractor markets, and cost planning
- Experience leading estimates and mentoring junior team members
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and communication skills
- Stable work history (culture fit is important)
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar preferred
Compensation & benefits:
- Up to $190,000 base salary (depending on experience)
- Discretionary bonus structure
- Health, dental, and life insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- PTO structure with increased tenure benefits
- Long-term growth opportunities into leadership roles
Why this opportunity:
- Direct reporting line into Chief Estimator with strong visibility
- Opportunity to lead complex, high-value projects across diverse sectors
- Family-oriented culture where employees are genuinely valued
- Strong pipeline of negotiated and repeat work (less bid-heavy volatility)
- Clear growth trajectory as the business scales toward $500M revenue
- Exposure to expanding industrial and data centre divisions, creating long-term career upside
