What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Project Manager – Energy & Building Systems (Consulting) position at Evergreen Talent Partners?
I am working with a leading energy consulting firm delivering complex decarbonization, commissioning, and building performance projects.
They are seeking a Senior Project Manager to take ownership of a high-volume portfolio of commissioning (Cx), retro-commissioning (RCx), and energy audit projects. This person will lead delivery from initial client engagement through to closeout and ongoing relationship management. These projects are largely in the SF Bay and wider NorCal area, with potential nearby out of state travel as required.
The Role:
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you will manage 10–20 projects concurrently, acting as the primary point of contact for clients while coordinating internal engineers and external partners.
You’ll combine technical oversight, project management discipline, and strong communication to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
Day-to-day:
- Own full project lifecycle: business development support → proposal → kickoff → execution → closeout → client follow-up
- Manage multiple Cx, RCx, and energy projects simultaneously (10–20 at a time)
- Act as the main client interface, leading meetings and providing clear, consistent communication
- Coordinate and resource internal engineers and project teams
- Manage subcontractors, including scoping, contracting, and invoicing
- Oversee technical deliverables (reports, commissioning plans, performance testing, etc.)
- Conduct site visits and support system assessments as needed
- Manage project financials: budgets, invoicing, and cash flow tracking
- Ensure all deadlines (internal and external) are met
Key Experience:
- 3 - 5 years of project management experience in commissioning (Cx), retro-commissioning (RCx), and/or energy auditing
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
- Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and process-driven
- Excellent communication skills, including strong email and client management discipline
- Experience across the full project lifecycle, from proposal through delivery
- Background managing subcontractors and coordinating invoicing
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and consistently hit deadlines
- Strong team player with experience resourcing and coordinating engineers
Preferred:
- Engineering degree (Mechanical or similar)
- PE license or working toward it
- Commissioning certifications (BCxP, CCP, or similar)
Growth Opportunity:
This role is designed for someone looking to step into people and project leadership in the near term.
You should be motivated to grow into a Manager of Project Management / Manager of Project Managers role, within the next 6–18 months.
