Overview


The Lead Custodian serves as the designated lead for third shift (9:00pm-6:00am) custodial operations, coordinating cleaning activities to ensure campus facilities are prepared for daily operations. This position assigns and reviews work, provides training and guidance to custodial staff, and supports large cleaning projects, inventory control, and safety compliance while performing custodial duties.

Duties & Responsibilities


Coordination
  • Assign, prioritize, and review custodial work to ensure completion in accordance with established cleaning standards and schedules
  • Provide day-to-day direction and training on cleaning methods, equipment use, and safety practices
  • Inspect completed work for quality and address deficiencies through coaching and corrective instruction
  • Serve as primary point of contact for custodial operations during overnight hours
  • Communicate operational needs, facility concerns, and staffing issues to custodial management

Custodial Operations
  • Coordinate nightly and periodic cleaning schedules to ensure facilities are ready for the next business day
  • Transport custodial supplies, equipment, and machinery between campus locations
  • Support large-scale cleaning projects, event preparation and breakdown, and emergency response activities
  • Monitor the condition and proper use of custodial equipment and supplies to ensure safe operation and longevity
  • Maintain inventory levels and recommend supply and equipment purchases
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality

Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with custodial procedures, safety regulations, and applicable policies
  • Operate College vehicles to support cleaning operations and event preparation
  • Promote safe handling, storage, and use of cleaning materials and equipment
  • Respond to service requests, safety concerns, and shifting campus priorities during assigned shift
  • Support weather-related operations and emergency campus needs

General Duties
  • Perform custodial duties as required to support operational needs and maintain service continuity
  • Contribute to department-wide initiatives that promote a safe and well-maintained campus environment
  • Represent Custodial Services in coordination with campus departments during assigned shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and campus operations


Qualifications


Required Education and Experience:
  • Two (2) years of custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience in a commercial, institutional, or educational setting
  • One (1) year of experience assigning, coordinating, or leading the work of others in a custodial or facilities environment
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted Washington State driver's license

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning materials, equipment, and chemical handling procedures
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and applicable regulations
  • Skill in assigning and coordinating the work of others without formal supervisory authority
  • Skill in inspecting work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with established standards
  • Ability to operate custodial equipment and College vehicles safely
  • Ability to communicate clearly and provide effective work direction
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to changing operational needs during assigned shift

Terms of Employment
  • Full-time position, Monday evening through Saturday morning, 9:00pm-6:00am, with occasional work outside of regular scheduled hours
  • Overtime eligible - FLSA non-exempt
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.

  • Performance will be evaluated after a six (6) month probationary period and annually.
