Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator
Shift: 1st Shift
 
Position Description
The Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) Coordinator will be responsible for supporting all aspects of environmental programs, occupational health, and industrial safety. They will identify, develop, implement, recommend, and actively engage with solutions to EHS concerns. They will assist with EHS programs and initiatives consistent with the company’s values and in compliance with federal, state, local, and Evapco requirements. The HSE Coordinator will provide leadership, support, and guidance to employees for EHS related practices and procedures. This position will report directly to the site EHS Manager. 
 
Core Responsibilities
  • Support programs to reduce work related illnesses and injuries and improve operation’s productivity. Develop necessary Safety training for management and the line organization. 
  • Develop necessary action plans, conducting plant wide safety inspections and monitor closure of safety related corrective actions.
  • Assist Supervisors with accident / incident investigations to find the root cause and implement an action plan to prevent reoccurrence. 
  • Participate in establishing facility EHS performance goals, monitor program effectiveness, provide data, and progress reports to site management and provide support to ensure timely and effective closure of corrective actions. 
  • Maintain federal, state and Evapco required documentation of incidents including correspondence with insurance provider for workers compensation claims.
  • Conduct inspections/evaluations of processes, equipment, facilities, and machinery to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure that compliance with safety regulations is met and exceeded.
  • Develop and communicate safety related tools to improve performance and increase efficiency in meeting objectives and ensuring compliance with legal and other requirements. 
  • Monitor applicable current and proposed occupational safety regulatory requirements and industry best practices, perform regulatory impact evaluations and implementation planning, ensure operational management is informed of all potential impacts, and periodically monitor performance against regulatory requirements, best practices, and company- specific Safety objectives.
  • Position may involve acting as an Emergency Coordinator for the facility and may involve signing hazardous waste manifests and classifying, analyzing, and labelling hazardous and residual wastes.
  • Maintain effective relationships with plant leadership and production employees. 
  • Work closely with regulatory agencies and community groups to secure Evapco’s reputation as an industry leader in EHS performance. 
  • Participate in Evapco Safety Working Groups 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by EHS Manager.
 
Critical Competencies:
  • Basic knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, regulatory reporting requirements and best practices with regards to environmental compliance and industrial safety. 
  • Understanding of general ergonomics principles.
  • Hazard recognition and risk assessment.
  • Working knowledge of heavy industrial manufacturing and assembly.
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene concepts such as identifying and/or anticipating potential exposures, conducting sampling, evaluating IH results, recommending controls, etc.
  • Communication:  Listening effectively, transmitting information accurately and understandably, and actively seeking feedback. Strong negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Environmental management – RCRA, storm water, SPCC, waste shipments (preferred)
  • Problem Solving/Decision Making:  Taking a well-ordered approach to solving problems and acting despite obstacles, resistance, or ambiguity.
  • Initiative:  Taking action in the absence of specific instructions or in the absence of a specific requirement, taking reasonable risks to achieve results, and persevering when challenged.
  • Experience in a team-based environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Use tact, discretion, and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Exercise independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
  • Use logical thought processes to analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Analyze data and information using established criteria to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards relevant to work performed.
  • Demonstrate and properly use/wear PPE and other safety gear and equipment.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Effectively represents Evapco in a professional manner with contacts with governmental and regulatory agencies, community groups, and various business associations.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Formal education in EHS-related field 
  • Professional certifications are a plus (CHMM, ASP, etc.)  
  • 5 plus years safety in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledgeable about Lean Manufacturing, including 5S programs.  
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR and AED or ability to earn certification within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license
Successfully pass the OSHA 30-hour program within the first 30 days of securing the position.
