Position Summary
The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, accuracy, and compliance of resident medical records within our electronic medical record (EMR) system. This role works closely with nursing leadership, providers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure documentation meets regulatory standards and supports high-quality resident care.
This position includes a flexible schedule and paid holidays, with on-call responsibilities one day per week and one weekend per month.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and oversee resident medical records in the electronic medical record system
- Ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance
- Conduct routine chart audits and follow up on documentation discrepancies
- Support clinical staff with EMR documentation processes and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with nursing and administrative teams to maintain survey readiness
- Assist with record requests and ensure confidentiality standards are upheld
- Provide guidance and support to staff on documentation best practices
- HIPAA/HITECH/Legal Documentation/Confidentiality complaint.
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Nurse (RN, LPN, or QMA) in the State of Indiana required
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems required
- Knowledge of MatrixCare preferred (willing to train the right candidate with a positive mindset)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Commitment to confidentiality and regulatory compliance
