What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller (SaaS) position at Ethos Software?
Ethos Software acquires and operates mission-critical vertical market software companies. We're hiring an Assistant Controller to support day-to-day accounting operations across our platform and portfolio.
You've worked through a monthly close, you're comfortable in the details, and you know your way around a balance sheet reconciliation. This is an execution-first accounting role focused on keeping repeatable workflows running cleanly and on time. No FP&A or corporate finance.
This is a hands-on role — you'll execute alongside the Controller and gradually take on more ownership as you grow into the position.

What You'll Do
- Support the monthly close across multiple entities: journal entries, AR, AP, cash application, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with SaaS accounting workflows: billing, deferred revenue rollforwards, and revenue support schedules
- Maintain clean, review-ready balance sheet schedules and documentation
- Work within Sage Intacct to maintain GL accuracy, dimension tagging, and entity-level posting
- Follow and help improve SOPs and controls as directed by the Controller
- Support standardization of processes across entities, including newly acquired businesses
- Coordinate with billing/collections and upstream systems to ensure clean data flow into Intacct
- Assist with acquisition integrations, including ERP onboarding and policy alignment tasks
- Support compliance workflows, including sales tax and VAT reporting
- Serve as a backup administrator for core finance systems (Sage Intacct, Avalara, bank and merchant accounts)
What We're Looking For
- 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience
- Solid GAAP fundamentals and direct close participation
- SaaS or recurring revenue experience preferred (deferred revenue, billing, contract-to-cash)
- Experience in a mid-to-large ERP environment (Sage Intacct a strong plus)
- Multi-entity accounting exposure preferred
- Organized, process-minded, and comfortable working in a remote team
- Curiosity about AI-powered accounting tools and a desire to improve productivity through automation
- CPA is a plus, not required
What Success Looks Like
You close on time, your reconciliations are clean, and the Controller doesn't have to double-check your work.
Compensation & Benefits
$90,000 – $110,000, plus comprehensive benefits.
