Controller

Ethos Software acquires and operates mission-critical vertical market software companies. We’re hiring a Controller to own day-to-day accounting operations across our platform and portfolio.

You’ve owned close, you’ve cleaned up messy processes, and you’re comfortable operating in the details. This is an operations-first accounting role focused on building repeatable workflows and keeping the accounting engine running cleanly and on time. No FP&A or corporate finance.

This is a hands-on role — you’ll both lead and execute.

This role reports directly to the CFO. The CFO owns Operations, Human Resources, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), and Corporate Development (Corp Dev); these responsibilities are outside the scope of this Controller role.

What You'll Do

• Own the core accounting engine across multiple entities: monthly close, AR, AP, cash application, and key balance sheet schedules
• Lead SaaS accounting operations: billing workflows, deferred revenue rollforwards, revenue support
• Maintain clean, review-ready balance sheet schedules and documentation
• Own accounting process discipline in Sage Intacct (dimensions, GL structure, entity mapping, approvals)
• Build and enforce SOPs, controls, and scalable accounting workflows
• Standardize processes and reporting across multiple entities, including acquired businesses
• Lead a fully remote accounting team across U.S. and international time zones
• Coordinate with external partners for tax filings and reviewed financials only (accounting is in-house)
• Partner with billing/collections and adjacent systems to ensure smooth data flow into Intacct
• Own acquisition integrations, including ERP setup/integration and accounting policy alignment
• Oversee compliance, including sales tax and VAT reporting
• Act as system owner/administrator for core finance systems (Sage Intacct, Avalara, bank accounts, merchant accounts)

What We're Looking For

• 7 years of progressive accounting experience (Controller / Assistant Controller)
• Strong GAAP fundamentals and clean close ownership
• SaaS/recurring revenue experience required (deferred revenue, billing, contract-to-cash)
• Experience operating in a large ERP environment (Sage Intacct strongly preferred)
• Multi-entity accounting and consolidations experience strongly preferred
• Strong process orientation and ability to drive accountability in a remote team
• Experience/curiosity regarding AI-powered accounting tools and a desire to increase productivity through automation
• CPA is a plus, not required

Compensation & Benefits

$145,000 - $185,000, plus comprehensive benefits.
