SUMMARY

Essexville-Hampton Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and student-centered educator for a one-year teaching assignment. The successful candidate will serve as the long-term substitute teacher for a first-grade classroom at the beginning of the school year during a leave of absence. Upon the return of the classroom teacher, the employee will transition to a district-wide substitute teaching role for the remainder of the school year, providing instructional continuity across the district as needed.

This is a full-time, one-year contracted position, with the possibility of extension based on performance and district needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
  • Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate (PK-3, K-5 all subjects, or K-8 all subjects)
  • Strong understanding of effective instructional practices and strategies to support student learning.
  • Experience with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) preferred, or willingness to learn and implement.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom environment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

During the First Grade Long-Term Substitute Assignment

  • Assume full responsibility for planning, instruction, classroom management, assessment, and communication for an assigned first-grade classroom.
  • Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with the Michigan Academic Standards and district curriculum.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and development.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teammates, intervention staff, special education staff, and administrators.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, and other school activities as assigned.
  • Perform all other duties normally expected of a classroom teacher.

During the District-Wide Substitute Assignment

  • Provide instructional coverage for classroom teachers throughout the district in grades and subject areas as assigned.
  • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher whenever available.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Follow district and building procedures, policies, and expectations.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff across multiple schools.
  • Be flexible and available to work in any district building based on operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
