Job Summary
The proposal benefits analyst plays an important role supporting the mission to be the trusted health plan of choice by ensuring member, client, and broker satisfaction goals are met consistently through the development and delivery of accurate and reliable commercial group proposals. The position has key accountability for generating new and renewal large group proposals, creating summary of benefits and coverage (SBC) documents, preparing benefit change grids, working with certificates of coverage (COCs), and working with benefit plan language (BPL) that’s used to link SBCs to the member portal. Accordingly, benefits administration or related experience is required.
This role works closely with sales executives and underwriters to facilitate the development of accurate and reliable customer-facing proposal exhibits. This role also serves as a liaison to other operational teams and departments supporting group business development activities and benefits administration. To be successful in this role, candidates must be detail oriented, highly organized, and able to perform effectively under pressure and balance competing priorities. Strong written and oral communication skills are important. Additionally, this position operates independently and requires a high level of business acumen, keen judgment, and attention to detail.
The primary technologies used in this position include MS Word and Excel, Adobe, Bolger Sumsum, and Salesforce customer relationship management.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Proposal exhibits
- Generate and audit large group new and renewing proposal exhibits: Consult with sales and underwriting teams to interpret the desired sales request and create a new business or renewal proposal package. Compile and review proposal packages, generating alternative quotes.
- Complete other tasks associated with the proposal process in conjunction with the agency relationship manager to present to the broker or client.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the preparation of benefit documents and ensuring their accurate representation.
Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBCs)
- Create, modify, and audit SBCs and compare benefit language in COCs.
- Prepare benefit change grids
- Work with BPL to link SBCs to the member portal.
- Be knowledgeable about product guidelines and standards as well as federal guidelines.
- Interpret other carriers’ benefit information and plan documents, and consult with sales, underwriting, and product teams to confirm compliance and accuracy.
Workflow
- Monitor the proposal mailbox and assignments to ensure proposals are completed within required timeframes.
- Delegate tasks as appropriate to other team members.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the team.
- Provide analytic and production support for project deliverables and timelines, including testing and implementation plans.
- Collaborate with department leaders to support project direction and attainment of goals.
- Maintain related project exhibits and meeting records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum required education level: Associate’s degree
- Minimum required years of experience working with benefits or in a related field: 1-3
Specific types of experience or skills required:
- Experience in health insurance (e.g., benefits administration, account management, customer service, or sales)
- Commercial group insurance experience (highly preferred)
- Experience with Salesforce task management or another CRM tool (highly preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- General understanding of operational and administrative processes supporting sales, financial underwriting, and account management
